Unfortunately, I've done all that, will do some more testing tomorrow evening - currently sat in the motor in the dark, swearing on occasion and rocking, neighbours must think I'm some sort of Dogger, haha.

Thanks for your help though, anymore insight from you or anyone else is greatly appreciated, I've got a sneaking suspicion I'm going to have to keep the car off road for a bit past MOT to get sorted. Booo.

I remember calling Eddie-NL who talked me through a way around the issue on the last one I done cause I just split the original unit and installed the repair kit - is that what you've done or did you repair a different unit to the original unit and fit a repair kit to the replacement item?

I split the original (MY2005 Mk60) Unit mate, due to the G201 Switch error; using the repair kit - wonder if @Eddie-NL could recall his wisdom :D ? Life and Saver come to mind :happy2:

He solved it with VCDS rather quickly after my many hours of rechecking my work - you can only ask him!

Fired him a PM, hopefully he'll jump on here :)

There are some other errors that have popped up too which are most likely related (I've heard the Steering Assist is part of the ABS system).  I've had the Steering Assist many times before when disconnecting the battery but it usually dissappers after basic settings and a drive, this time it cleared, said OK, but now there's no power steering or comms to it, LOL, you have to laugh.

I wonder if the Duff ABS Wheel Speed Sensor is not allowing the Steering Assist to be calibrated?

I took everything out again and disconnected the plug and checked the wiring, looked all good... I get this from the Steering Assist now:

For my money it's just completing the basic settings with VCDS and not the ABS sensor!

I've tried matey, must be 10 times on the road now, I swear people think I'm eyeing up their homes, lol.

I've had the offside rear wheel off, and the "reluctor ring?" if that's the name, that the sensor reads from, felt scored and not smooth with quite a bit of rust, I did try and brighten it a bit but the error returned.
I ran Measuring Blocks on the wheel speed sensors and THAT one isn't showing any speed, the others all read exactly the same correct road speed.

As it's the only hardware problem I can see and it's ABS related I think I need to try and sort it.  But I'm not 100% sure whether it's the sensor or the hub... logic suggests it's the hub, as when I clear the error in VCDS it doesn't come back until I move the car, I would've thought that if the sensor was broken then it would return straight away, but that's guess work... I'd much prefer to just change the sensor as I bet the hub is a PITA and special spline required I've read...... hmmph :(

Before I do anything though, I think I'm going to FULLY charge the battery, and try the settings again... low juice causes mad issues.   Having no Power Steering is a chore though :driver:

Still remuging about for clues :)

Looks like Rosstech specifically state in the special notes area that if a WSS (wheel speed sensor) is not working then the steering wheel stop adaptation wont work:
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Golf_(1K)_Steering_Assist#Steering_Limit_Stop_Adaptation

Is there any way to tell whether its a bad sensor or the hub that needs doing before actually doing it?

Anyone got a 12 point Triple Square Spline 18mm with 3/8 drive I could borrow?

Halfords only seem to have a 16mm in their Professional range, DOH.

I doubt you will get 18mm in 3/8 drive.

You're right mate, looks like 1/2 inch only - bit of a monster torque requirement 180lbft and half turn.  Looked everywhere locally (online) just can't get them.
My local VW parts desk shutdown recently, so it's a 60 mile trip to the nearest, don't really want to drive it that far with no PAS; I'll grab one online. :happy2:

Out of interest was the vehicle scanned before the ABS pump tear down if so was the wheel sensor faulty on that scan?
I test the ABS sensors with a multimeter and just compare the value to a working sensors on the ohms scale - this might help http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=129702.0
On price check with TPS - in our area there keen to match Euro CP.
