Non-OEM reverse camera for Jetta (working and with photos)
« on: February 03, 2016, 09:20:49 pm »
Can you guys recommend me a half-decent reversing camera for a Mk5 Jetta?

I've got a Kenwood head unit (soon to be upgraded, hopefully) so I don't need OEM integration.

Are any of the eBay ones respectable?

Thanks

I have got this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170-WIDE-ANGLE-VEHICLE-FRONT-REAR-VIEW-CAMERA-REVERSING-PARKING-CAR-CAM-OUTSIDE-/111759925570?hash=item1a05692142:g:BSUAAOSwu4BV5W61

Works like a charm.

I did not want to sacrifice a number plate light so I went for this mini one. One of the best things I have done to my car.

For some reason I'd thought number plate type ones were the only option! Great shout.

I wouldn't have thought so as I don't think the RNS 510 has the RCA input for this type of camera

At the moment, think I might go for one of these (£11 on eBay) and drill a hole next to the number plate lights. Figured I can give it a touch of paint, then bung the hole if the camera is removed.

Although, would that make a bit of easy path for thieves?

When i did mine, it was a easy job.
Hole is useless to thieves, i super glued mine PURELY, because i didnt want it to rotate. As i have made reference points and  if it moved, everything would get screwed for me. Hole is 2cm for camera FYI*

Got this in and working yesterday  (excuse the dirt...only washed the car last week!)

The downward viewing angle makes the ruler lines pretty useless, but it's plenty good enough for my daily reverse-parallel park into stupidly small spaces. It's barely visible from behind, which is what I wanted.

Thanks @kingraza27  :congrats:

Any links for ebay ones that work with rns510?
Will it automatically show the camera display in R gear?

I wanted to run it through the original rubber in the boot, but couldn't make it work  :sad1:

It's tucked inside the bootlid metalwork, then runs alongside the rubber to the car body, across the underside of the parcel shelf then down the driver's side sill to the head unit.
