Hi all
So I've had my mk5 GTI a few months now, started to complete some mods so thought I should start a build thread.
The car was previously owned by my little brother, I tried a number of times to convince him I should take ownership of it. Even offered a swap for my BMW 330 CI convertible but he was not interested.
So the day finally came when he decided to trade it in for a mk7 gti, quickly I jumped in and offered to take it of his hands. Fortunately for me he let me have it for the same money VW offered as trade in value.
First job on the list was to convince VW the car was still under warranty and the rust on the front wings should be covered. Which I am pleased to say was successful as well as a coil pack recall I didn't know about.
Next job was a full service from VW. Cam belt, water pump, air con recharge, brake fluid and all fluids and filters changed.
After Christmas came the decision to stick with the 18" monza alloys so a diamond cut refurb was required. So they got booked in with a local highly recommend firm who transformed them. More than pleased with the result.
Not the best pick but an idea of how bad they were, serious white worm.
Next came some Audi tail pipe tips, an idea seen on this forum. A cheap mod until I can save for a miltek turbo backed exhaust.
To address the plastic honey comb grill I purchased some C4. After an evening in the garage with a cotton bud the results were impressive.
Next these went in
Huge improvement to the stance of the car, I didn't want the car in the weeds as I use it to commute and ferry my 2 year old daughter around in. The wife didn't even notice the change. I personally love them, done a lot of car customising over the last 20 years and these are better than eibach, apex, pi, and jom. I have a Ford C-Max fitted with Ap coilovers, the golf ome shocks and H&Rs work just as well.
Before
After
This week I had the divert valve replaced. I knew the car was losing some boost but I wasn't expecting this !!
How the car never threw up any error codes amazes me, or that VW don't recognise it as an issue!!
The car now feels a lot more punchy, all 200 horses going through the front wheels as they should.
I'm happy for now, in time I'd like a stage 2 + remap.
I have started collecting some interior mods and will post them as I fit them. They include chrome switches, gti seat handle inserts and replacement driver and passenger grab handles.
