Advice Please. Weird central locking issue n/s door
« on: June 22, 2010, 11:48:06 pm »
Hi All
Went to pick my wife up from work last night. Forgot to unlock the doors as I sat waiting for her.
She tried the door which was locked, as I unlocked the door with the swich on the drivers door.

No matter what I tried could I get the passenger door to unlock.

Tried to unlock it again this morning. Still wouldn't budge.

You can hear the lock motor making a noise but nowt else.

Read a tip on the forum about giving the handle a thump until it unlocks, but still no joy.

Came to move the car tonight and it working like normal.

So is this just another perculiarity of my golf. Or a sign of iminant failure?

Really tempted to replace the mechanism while I can, does anyone have a price and part number?

3door if it makes any difference?

Cheers

Lee

Yes, change it when you can!   :happy2:

I had the same happen with my rear offside door (5 door) and it eventually stayed locked when the door was closed (even though you could hear the lock motor working). The dealer had to break into the door to replace the lock. The lock was around £80 (IIRC) but the total cost was £240 with labour.

Hi - which dealer did you use as local ones here are a bit reluctant to try & even diagnose?

I had exactly the same problem on front passenger door. Couldn't get it to unlock even using interior central lock button or handle. Fault was v intermittent. Occassionally repeated pressing of key fob would open it. Booked it in to be looked at and 3 days before it was due to be sorted it fixed itself. Been 100% fine since (over a month now)  :jumpmove:

Would have been looked at under warranty but given there was no longer a fault to fix reckoned garage wouldn't be interested

Good luck

The problem here is you can't take the outer skin off until you get the door open. How I did it was to repeatedly bang the outside of the the door with the bottom of your fist (firmly, but not too hard). Then wind the window down and while you keep pressing unlock on your fob, keep trying to open the door with the interior/exterior handles. Just keep repeating this and keep everything crossed. It did take me about 10 mins of this to get it open.

This is what the front door looked like with the skin off to give you an idea:

And the guide I used for removing the door skin ----> http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?2984471

Once your in its pretty self explanatory on changing the module.

Hope this helps.

My drivers door module is on the way out, (temperamental locking, fault code shown by vagcom and the door LED).  Can anyone advise if when its replaced there is any coding required?
