When you building the engine up, Alex?

Its going to be the start of next year now.  Ive got way too much work on customers cars to have my car on a ramp for a few days.  I really want to get it done too.

dont worry about thse customers, plenty more where they came from :innocent:  think of us loyal forumites as your customers. you wouldnt want to let us down

I wish I could cancel them, but ive got 2 winter projects to get on with that will take me into the new year.  You guys are more important though

Clutch is much better now its bedded in.  Pulling away revs have dropped now and it only judders slightly if you get it wrong.  The pedal has softened up and ive got used to it as well.  Well worth putting on and the diff is still awesome.  Takes a but of getting used to where is best to put the power down esp in the wet, but the maps brilliant throttle control helps.

Update time.

Hybrid is still waiting to be fitted.  I have ordered some IE rifled drilled rods along with some ARP head studs.  These should be with me next week, but I wont have a chance to get them fitted until we have moved to our new unit.  I guess its going to be around mid March by the time I get a free day.

I have had a slight knock from the front and rear of the car, but as usual Ive been so stacked at work that its taken me a few weeks to look at the car.  The rear knock was just the exhaust on the axle which is sorted now.  The front knock was a cracked dogbone bush (the small one not the THS one in the subframe).  Got a new dogbone (you cant just buy the bush) and as I had a spare subframe centre I threw a VWR VT road mount into it and put that on the car too.  Feels like an improvement over the THS mount, but not by much.  I still had a little bit of clutch judder when pulling away which has gone now, mainly from changing the cracked little bush.

Before Xmas I fitted a Forge catch tank.  Meant for the Golf hence the sighting window being in an awkward place.  Already drained the thing 3 times as they like to fill with moisture more than oil.

Also fitted a Bolero (RCD510) a few months back along with a Dension Gateway 5 and a new Can-Bus module

Today I gave it a wash (bit of a sh*t pic).

These turned up last week.  Now I just need to get a day off to get them fitted.

Are they H-Beam Rods Alex? I am guessing the originals are I-Beam?

Is the KO3 engine much the same as KO4 I thought the head was slightly different along with the pistons?

Those rods are mega and should be able to take quite a bit.

How good is the crank though?

Any idea how much power and torque it can take?

Great rods, look very beefy. i think they are  500+ hp
Will they fit OEM pistons?

The rods are tapered on the big end so they will fit the standard pistons.  Rods will be good for 500bhp+ if I ever went that high.

Ive built a few 450+ bhp BWA engines and the cranks are fine.  These rods are indeed H beam and also rifle drilled to aid with oil lubrication to the bearings.

Just got to order some 'Sputter' big end bearings, some new rings and a head gasket kit.

We shall have a chat next week but what are you aiming for?

If the crank lets go thats going to be expensive.

Is there hardly any difference then between S3 and GTI engines?

What about the head surely you will need more flow?

And how the bloody hell are you going to get 500bhp to the tarmac my friend!

I got some R32 rear calipers and carriers from h4rdy a while back.  They needed new seals and a good clean up.  I gave them a lick of black paint to match the fronts and made an 'R' logo too.

The standard 'R' logo on the fronts is silver which doesnt stand out.  I cut some more stickers up in white to go over the silver ones (its useful having a vinyl cutter!)

How well does vinyl cope with caliper heat?
Looking for the bright side of life.

Have you got braided hoses on the r32 fronts? And if not do you want some?
