Rear parking sensors - retrofitting any recommended dealers?
« on: October 23, 2010, 12:45:09 am »
Hey folks,

I am looking to get rear parking sensors supplied & fitted on my GTI but just wondered if anyone has any recommended installers?

I've done a search and it appears 'Cobra' appear to be the brand of choice... Anyone know any installers in the Essex area / have any other recommendations?

Thanks :)

Cobra provided the OEM retrofit kits used by dealers.

AFAIK you'll not get any niceties like display on the RNS etc just a beeper in the rear.

A proper install would be - http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p1230_c26_Park-Pilot-with-OPS---Rear-Retrofit---VW-Golf-5.html

Shaun,

I retro fitted the cobra sensors on my car mate. its easy!!

How much are they charging?? The kit cost me £60 from ebay and £20 the get them sprayed.

Takes about hour to fit, and thats being extra careful with your bumper so no scratches etc.

If you bought the wiring from Kufatec, which I think is probably best even if you bought a used bumper, then it comes with instructions.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies, Lee, i've seen a set on the bay for £60ish mate, so may go down that route.

What i'll probably do is, call a few places, if its like £150-170 supplied / fitted, I might get them to do it.

May even ask the local VW dealer just for a laugh, depends on their pricing (They may fit MK6 version though although as above prob the same parts needed in theory)

Laser line makes for a better look I think - far more factory!

Unfortunately not, dealers tend to vary with how they deal with fitting parking sensors. Some outsource to third party organisations such as mobile auto electricians/car audio techs. These guys will tend to use third party kits such as those on ebay.

Other dealers who are confident enough to provide in-house fitment will always use the VW universal kit which is listed under the accessories catalogue on ETKA.

vRStu, are you aware if the kits from VW come with instructions or are these purely Kufatec instructions?

I was referring to using an OEM bumper prepared for sensors and mating that with a Kufatec loom which I think should come with instructions.

I have used quite a few sets of Skoda OEM retrofit sensor kits and they always came with instructions.

Retro-kits will likely just tap into the reverse lamp wiring as the actuation signal.  An OEM setup would be adding a new controller so it would go on the CAN.

I was told by my local vw dealer that the cobra kit is what they use in a retro fit situation, they had a box of what they use at the dealership and they are exactly what i fitted.

They dont sit flush like the ones in the photo above but once painted blend in well.

The ones above, they told me only come as factory fit ie ordered with the car.

Im sure if you could source all the bits you can make them work but it all depends how much your prepared to spend!

I dont like the bloody things but my other half had them in the old car so wanted them on the golf, £80 was as much as i was prepared to spend on what i didnt really want!!
