Hands free options
« on: April 22, 2011, 09:55:32 am »
Chaps, advice needed please

I have a 58 plate Pirelli and want to see what my options are for hands free. The head unit is a stock CD/radio and there is a multifunction steering wheel. I have no clue if and how I might be able to use my mobile without the horrible ear piece I am currently using ?

Any ideas as to the options. I did see something at the VW dealer that was small and neat but would rather not butcher the dash tbh

The 2 neatest options are the skoda 729B bluetooth(very hard to get hold of) and the kufatec bluetooth. Both are controlled with the mfsw and highline and are completely hidden.

Id highly recommend the Kufatec. It doesnt use RSAP like the skoda kit therefore has better compatibility with other phones, plus you get oil/water/boost info in the dash  :happy2:

Fiscon Basic Plus

The skoda kit isnt RSAP so it works with nearly all phones.

The reason I chose the skoda one over the kufatec was for the voice dialing (Press the star button on the wheel to activate). It would have been nice to have the mfa+ the kufatec has but the voice dialing is more useful imo :happy2:

Someone told me last week that it was  :signLOL:

Voice dialling is easily added with their upgrade kit which utilises the OE mic position for an extra mic to get these functions working

And to be fair, I dont miss voice dialling  as I can do it all via Direct Dial or phonebook via the MFSW on highline

If I can call from the MFSW that would be great. I am very happy without voice calling, I have that on my last 2 BMW's and never used it !

Kufatec Fiscon Basic Plus kit.

Comes with the loom, the unit, and the mic

Its simply a case of plugging it in (you plug the existing quadlock on the back into the loom, then the new quadlock into the radio), and enabling Telephone (77) in VCDS and itll work

The phone button etc all works on the MFSW - the only thing you dont get is voice calling

I'd stick with the skoda 729b.

All the mic options for the fiscon are passive and IMO the quality is very poor especialy when your on the motorway or have the window down.......

I have the 729b and my mate has the fiscon so I'm familiar with both kits  :happy2:

Hi, I'm looking to get a 729 B for my EOS.

Does anyone know where the OE microphone plugs in to get the voice dialling. I do have an RNS 510 (D version with SW 3800).

I have read that the microphone can plug into the BT or the RNS?? Very puzzled.
Thanks

Thats interesting because the label on the top says 1T0 035 680 B
on the "secret menu" I have

Radio Service menu
Delivery Part Number   1T0 035 680 D
HW Version         H03
SW Version         3800
Active Map Coverage   West Europe
Active Map Supplier      Navteq
Map Version HDD      7388

Not sure what that all means and whether I have voice control or not. Can't install it until I get the aerial adapters

3800 software put onto a version C will make it show as a version D  :happy2:

Mine is the same

The official version Version D doesnt come out till later this year.

All version C units have voice control as they came with 2680 from factory, which was the voice control software

Marvellous, Can't wait to fit it (and the bluetooth when I figure out which one to buy )

Strange that the label says "B". Maybe just because I have 3800 as you indicate on the C. As it is originally a B I hope the hardware has the physical connections for the microphone.

Thanks again

Oh interesting
Thats a B then (2680 or higher on a B makes it a C...3800 or higher on a B/C makes it a D)

All the same connections mate

Personally, I have no problem with motorway noise or windows down with the Kufatec kit so I cant see what the fuss is about  :signLOL:
