extreme newbie help pleeze
« on: March 11, 2009, 12:18:49 pm »
hi guys
this wkend is my first wkend with my new baby!!
iv had y car just the week but was away for few days..

its had the autoglym polish done from new and previous owner just washed and dried it so i feel i need to give her the porper once over.

i bought
ag shampoo
wheel foamcleaner and ag wheel seal
agsuper resin ploish
ag extra gloss protection
ag aqua wax
men deep crystal carnuba wax 3

got me micro fibres/foam mittt and wheel brush.

i know they arent the best individual products and after some research i know i,ll replace them differently as i go along but i need an idiots guide to what order and hich products you would use from that election.- if one or more is radically wrong i,ll replace b4 the wkend.

thanks in advance for the help.

TBH, if you want a fresh base, get her detailed properly by a detailer (not a valeter). This will give you a fantastic foundation from which to start. Otherwise she'll never be her best.

Have a read over on detailingworld. Has some good tutorials, especially on two-bucket method (2BM).

Why do you have two waxes?

1. Rinse car.
2. Wash car with shampoo + 2BM
3. Pat dry. Do the wheels + tyres.
4. It's worth getting a clay bar like Meg's smooth surface clay kit. Costs around £22 from halfrauds. Clay the car.
5. Polish using AG SRP, remember to work in the polish as it will break down into smaller and smaller particles. Use an applicator. Work over small areas eg 2m square.
6. Apply AG EGP, allow to dry but not long (only a few mins) and buff off.
7. Apply wax. Buff. Allow to cure for  a few hours, repeat.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Is this the method u use,? See I have no cloths or anything and don't know how to use any products. I've just signed onto detailing world and seems like too much info. What sort of chamois or cloths would you recomed to put on and rub off polish. I also have a spinning buffer machine but was unsure if it's to apply or rub off the polish
7. Apply wax. Buff. Allow to cure for  a few hours, repeat.

Yes. Don't use microfibre cloths for the polish as this will remove some of it, which you don't want. Get some detailing cloths from halfrauds.

For the EGP/Wax etc you can use microfibre cloths - use a clean one to apply and a clean one to buff off for each product. Tescos do them 2 for £2 in the household cleaning section. Much cheaper than £4 for one cloth from halfrauds.

Sorry - use microfibre for everything - If you use none microfibre you run the risk of scratching and marring the paint (not good especially when you have done all the work to get the car right)

This is all ok (although as you have said you could replace as you go along with better (in my opinion)  and more user friendly products.)
To start i wouldnt worry about the deep crystal and aqua wax just do every thing above that in your list - use the aqua wax as a top up when you wash the car.

Hi

Yep, Spot on with the wash and aqua wax weekly - the aqua wax will  help keep up the protection - I would also every month redo the extra gloss protection (1 or 2 coats)but do the SRP once every 3-6 months as the SRP will remove the layers you have built up.
Hope this helps

No it's not a stupid question!

As it's dryer and has been raining so much the water tends to wash all the muck everywhere, so as it dries the wind picks it up and throws it everywhere... plus you've done all that hard work, got the car sparkling and because it's cleaner you notice the dirt much easier.

If it is a problem, you could use a Quick Detailer, possibly the Aqua Wax, to gently remove the dust with micofibres.

All the best

Jim  :happy2:
