Replacing 4 tyres, considering options

I am looking to replace my tryes on my Pirelli (close to the wear bars all round) I currently have original spec Pirelli Nero's 18 225/40's

The suspension is

Bilstein PSS10
TT alloy arms
WALK
Neuspeed ARB's 25F, 25R

the car is handling well and I was thinking about Pirelli's again, but they are expensive and I am wondering if they could be improved ?

My thoughts are :

1. Pirellis again
2. Vredenstein Ultra
3. Michelin PS2, or 3's
4. Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
5. Toyo T1R's

I liked PS2's on my old M3, and had T1R's and others on an M5 the T1R's were great for dry grip, okay for wet and very good for ride harshness, but didn't last.

PS3's for me too.  Can't wait to change to them on my Ed30!

Not cheap but these are the ones for you:

1. Michelin PSS (no PS3)
2. Conti SC 5P  (attention: there's a SC5 without 'P' as well)
3. Pirelli P Zero (no Nero or Rosso)
4. Yokohama AD08 (the best on dry and still good enough on wet for daily use)

Bruce, I like your thinking

Just done a load of reading, as my car is a Pirelli and I don't push on in the wet I'm thinking P Zero's all round. They seem to be right up there in the dry.
Guessing it will be over £500 a set fitted, perhaps £600. But moving from an e92 M3 this is seamingly cheap  !

Unfortunately the only way to find out which tyre are best 'in your opinion' is to try them. One persons favourite is anothers worst nightmare!

I had some P Zero's fitted to mine a couple of months ago. Very hard to find and cost £600 fitted.

I fitted Yokohama AD08 to my Evo6 last year although it was a close call as I almost went with the AO48R which by the looks and reports are super sticky.

I really rate the AD08's for grip , unsure of wear rates and not overly worried as it doesnt rack up many miles each year . Had it from new in 99 and its on its 3rd set of tyres in 21k miles 

Definitely thinking of putting the AD08 on the Golf as well but also looking at the Michelin PSS . A friend has the Conti's Contact 3's on his and he really rates those as a good all rounder.

A lot of it depends on personal preference ,driving style and mileage I think . I always go for outright dry drip first and wear rate last as my mileage is low , and I'm not one for hooning around in the wet so drive slower in those conditions anyway ( unless the Evo is out )

I have always used Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics without any problems or issues.
But hey choice is always a good thing
