Inlet manifold removed - doesnt look as clean it should!

I got the Dealers to email me the photos of the head after they had removed the intake manifold. These photos were taken after I first saw the state of it, but pics look a lot oilier than other photos I've seem after the manifold was removed. Dont know how long ago these were taken, as its been sitting in the dealers for 9 days now.

What mileage are you at dom?  Seems come 40k + or less if use is all short journeys the intake valves are hammered on the TFSIs'

They are worse than my soot chucker were,looks like valve stem oil seals

Is the car normally smokey on cold start up?

If valve guides were worn, wouldn't that make it really smokey on start up?


Could be loose valve guides in the cylinder head itself perhaps?

Also all valves are uniform and not just one cylinder with a worse carbon build up then the rest..

I dont know, would have made sense, then could have determined where it was from, hindsight is a fine thing!

Your valves look a but sorry for themselves.
i was at the dealers today , i asked the master tech why my valves were in such a bad state , he said that oil is picked up in the intake cycle and the turbo pulls a bit of oil through over the intake valves (i would imagine from the intercooler) and this oil mist deposits on the valves.

are vw making a goodwill gesture towards this? how much has it cost you? if you dont mind me asking.

Have you had a catch fitted prior to this? Or is there some other underlying prob I missed somewhere.

Whats the best way too remove this? Without stripping the head down?

Just seen other thread, hope you get to the bottom of this. All clues point to either turbo or stem seals, as the turbo has already been done. Got to be head.
