Here is a review of the recent services Ive used...
What is Flocking? Flock can be used on any non-porous material or surface. Because of it's durability it is ideal for vehicles. Flock is also used by many vehicle manufacturers for items such as glove boxes and boot interiors etc. This helps to cut down resinence and creates an anti-slip surface. Most WRC rally cars use flocking throughout the interior for many reasons - some of the benefits are listed below;
- Provides an anti-glare surface
- Ideal for dashboards
- Reduces condensation build up,
- Can help towards hiding marks and scratches,
- Creates sound insulation,
- Reduces resonance and noises such as rattles,
- It doesn't absorb water as it is waterproof,
- Creates heat insulation,
- It is a lightweight option,
- It is extremely durable
- Has an aesthetic value, can be done in a variety of colours
Why flock your car??I have always liked flocked dashes aesthetically when seen in motorsports and cars at various meets & shows.
The Leon is know to have one of the poorer dash setups of the MkV platform, I love my car and cant see it going soon especially after the money Ive mindlessly ploughed into it! So decided it was time for a dash freshen up...
My justification is a 50/50 really between functionallity and aesthetics. I do get irritated by dash glare and I do love the new fresh look.
Where from and How much?A quick google or forum search (when the search button returns lol) will bring a number of flocking services. I emailed several for quotes and was concious of the 'get what you pay for' rule.
Initially planned to have it done through Kev at KPM at a price of £100 & postage for the 3 parts pictured below.
I then recieved a quote from a company who had a profesional looking website, responded in a prompt, courteous and proffesional manner.
The quote was £80 delivered and given they specialise soley in this area I chose them.
I must add Kev @ KPM was also great to communicate with and after seeing pictures of StevePs car we all know his services are superb, I will certainly be paying a visit for a nose round and mechanical services when Im back in the Uk but I digress!
So where from then! I chose to go with;
Thomas & Vines LtdI dealt with Simon Thomas who happily kept me updated along the way and as requested sent me a couple of pics before returned to me.

*** Update
Update and another thanks to Simon Thomas for being helpful once again this morning.
Is sending me a sample of my current flocking so I can match some alcantara to Retrim my steering wheel and a custom gator to match.
Simon was a little difficult to get hold of recently after family illness and a big exhibition in London but told me not to hesitate to phone up if email replies don't come through.
Looking forward to tying my interior mini mods together over winter
