Retrofit OEM xenon headlights, what's involved?
« on: November 08, 2011, 01:57:36 pm »
Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a good original pair of xenon headlights with original 4300k d2s lamps, original ballasts/ignitors and a pair of kufatec 12 to 10 pin adapter cables.
Offered plenty at local marketplaces/ebay/etc (The Netherlands), so looking for the best price/quality/completeness before buying one.

I have a VW Golf V GTI from 2005 with original halogen headlights.
I don't need the auto-height-adjustment system and the headlight-washer-system (only requiered on >2007 cars over here).
So what's involved?

- Is there a good 'how-to'?
- How to (partly?) remove the bumper and halogen headlights?
- How to install the new xenon headlights correctly (beam patern/height)?
- Is it still possible to adjust the height using the small scrolling wheel near the light-switch (positions: -&1&2&3)?
- I do not necessarily need the xenon high beam function. H7 as high beams is good enough for me (if I do want to use the xenon shutters/high beam, I need to connect the extra wire coming from the kufatec 12-10pin adapters to the cecm. How to do this?)
- Are all 12 to 10 pin adapters equipped with the extra high-beam-xenon-shutter-wire?
- What/where do I need to recode in vcds? (Xenon with shutters, xenon without shutters? What boxes to check?

Thanks,

Tim

Found a 'how-to': http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/a5/HID-retrofit-Jetta-a5.htm

But doesn't answer all my questions, like if it's still possible to use the height-adjusment-scroll-wheel?
Also the how to is not complete if you are not a member on myturbodiesel, like me...

video guide here from ECS tuning

then the Kufatec looms plug straight in. additional wire NOT required.
Level wheel will not work.
xenons without shutters in VCDS required if the additional wire is not used.
Standard: Rear parking sensors, Parrot Bluetooth
Retro fitted: MFSW buttons, RCD510, Boot pop, Black Monza II, Xenons, Audi jacking points, open fog light grills.

Thanks 'Parks'!

So no manual height control anymore?
How to properly install the headlights at the correct beam-heights?
Mark the old headlight beam patterns on the garage door?

CORRECT

How to properly install the headlights at the correct beam-heights?

Easiest way is to take it down to an MOT tester and get them to set them... i did mine myself though

Mark the old headlight beam patterns on the garage door?

That should work, but don't move the car once you've marked them up

The kufatec loom should already have the extra wire on each connector, with the pin attached ready to slot into the cecm.

Does yours not have them attached?

seems 000 979 025e and 000 979 151e are the two connecting terminals needed for anyone who wants to wire in the hibeam shutter on their xenons

Hi

Sorry to sound dumb but what are you referring to when you say xenon shutters?

I've never heard that term before also you say xenons with and xenons without

Whats the difference I thought that were all the same.

I haven't done this mod yet so would be handy to know when I come round to it.

Regards

Rich.

The shutters when wired up will open on high beam, using the xenon for high beam illumination in addition to the halogen bulb.
Without them wired up, only the halogen bulb is used.

All standard golf xenons have the bi xenon shutter, but you have to run a wire to the cecm to activate it.
