For those with Wintrac Xtreme
« on: November 17, 2011, 12:35:11 am »
What pressures did you run at? I'm using the stock 2.6 bar but I'm aware that others have run Vredestein tyres at higher pressures.

Having a look at the Vredestein website, they state: Wintrac xtreme    225/40 R 18 92 W XL     45 PSI    51 PSI
http://www.vredestein.com/Onlineadvies_Advies_Result.asp?SearchtypeID=1&UserSessionID=53357661&AutomerkID=201&AutomodelID=42&AutotypeID=8793&AutouitvoeringID=291408

I'm amazed at 51psi. Sounds ridiculously high so is anyone running at these pressures?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I ran my Snowtracs 0.2 bar higher than normal.

Stealth, ran mine faultlessly last year on 36 all round. I'm doing the same this year.

Probably equivalent of n/a. Click on the other units to see whether a reading comes up.

Just did a little experiment today regarding tyres, about 2 degrees Celsius and very damp, with ESP on lots of wheelspin, but ESP off the Wavetrac got to work and lots off grip compared to before. I prefer ESP on on the road, but what a difference it made when the diff was allowed to work. Running 36 psi on mine BTW.  :happy2:

Over the top mod list ;o)

I'm running at 37psi and today I felt it was understeering and the handling was numb. On a DC and tried to overtake someone and despite turning the steering wheel by the normal amount, it was still going straight ahead!

Will try 40psi this weekend and go from there.

Are they new tyres, Stealth? I found them similar when they went on from new, particularly the light steering and reduced feedback through the wheel. My theory is the softer rubber compound allows the  blocks to move around more so the feeling is a bit like driving on marbles. After a little while they bedded in. This year I switched from my summer wheels with PS3s and didn't really notice much difference at all.
