Changing PCV and rear pipe, I gained 20% more fuel efficiency & stopped oil use

This may have already been mentioned, but you only need to change the rear pipe if your pipe is the valved tipe. I upgraded my PCV to the latest version, but didn't need to change the rear pipe as it was a straight pipe with no valve

If you look at the VW race series cars they use the oe pcv. The old ones used to fail but the new ones are much stronger. I know since i fitted the N revision pcv my car drives much smoother.

Am tempted to try out the PCV and see how it goes

Are you sure, as everything I have read, suggests you need the rear pipe with check valve, or the install is pointless ???

It is suggested in all the guides I have read, that the rear pipe with the check value is required, or it makes upgrading the front PCV pointless. Take a read on both links posted above and make up your own minds

Hi Guys,

As with most peeps, the title of this thread has piqued my interest! 
Like most on here, im most meticulous and anal to the mainenance and upkeep of the car 

Im all for upgrading components and carrying out preventative maintenance - especially where components are prone to failure.

Im not that clued up on all things mechanical but can follow a simple how to.

Can any explain in layman terms what the PCV does and why the upgraded / updated part perform better?
Is the PCV that was installed from factory on my 57 ED30 prone to failure?
Also, is this worth doing or is it a case of if it isnt broke, dont fix it?

Cars that have the rear check valve installed will need the P revision. Cars that have a straight rear pipe need the N revision. If yours needs the P then you will need to upgrade the rear pipe too. If not then you dont need to bother. Both PCV function the same so neither is better than the other.

Apparently the revised ones are supposed to help reduce oil consumption on these oil hungry engines. My car came with the F version car built March 2008 which is the dual valve version. Mine is on it's original with 124k on it and it's been tuned all it's life and seems to be ok but might change it to see if it reduces oil consumption.

So am I correct in thinking that basically we would be fitting 2 check valves instead of the 1 which we should be running?
I run the L revision with no rear check valve.

Thats what i used to run was the L but i updated to the latest one for ours which is the N. The L didnt really need changing but I did it as the N is stronger than the L and I am running more power now. I see no point in fitting a rear check valve on cars that dont need them.

Have you got the part numbers please?

I went in asking for these:-

PCV valve cover assembly: 06F 129 101 L
PCV valve cover gasket: 06F 103 483 E
PCV valve cover to turbo hose: 06F 103 215 B
PCV tube to turbo metal gasket: 06F 145 757 F

So you've fitted a rev L and not N 

I've just ordered a Rev N  06f129101N

mine is also a 2007 Ed30 ..

When on full boost the rear check valve will be open as thats how it vents. When off boost it vents from the front pcv.

Just fitted my Revision N just now and removed the old Revision L. New Rev N now has 2 check valves in the housing rather than the one large valve located in the main body. A small check valve is added between main housing and rocker box housing.
So far car seems alot more eager and idles alot more happier.

Will keep an eye on any improvement to MPG.
