Ive mostly been fitting TPMS today

Due to having such a low profile tire on my alloys(215/35) I needed abit of protection, so I bought the wiring loom for the tpms from Kufatec and the switch from Vw dealer and fitted yesterday easy enough to do just needed coding which again is easy to do,  Ive not got any pics of the install but i do of the switch and cluster icons.

Is this active TPMS or the passive TPMS?
I see from your gauges you don't have a GTI: the RoW-spec GTI comes with the passive TPMS (which isn't nearly as good as the US-spec active TPMS, which both Golfs (Rabbits) and GTIs get in the US).

Get it on Jay especially with your wheels being has expensive has they are...Jay could you give me a low down on how to do the xenons, Ive got some that I picked up the other day and Im just waiting for the adapters from Kufatec.

sorry to dig up and old thread, but any chance you could elaborate a little more on what's involved in retro fitting TPMS (parts, approx cost, how to etc.)

This is the next mod on the list.

You'd be better off fitting one of these...





It gives individual pressure and temperature readings of tyres and you can set upper and lower limit warnings for both.

What's the difference between the active and passive variants?

I'm guessing that the passive system uses the cars ABS/ESP system to tell if a tyre is going flat.
As the tyre has less air in it, its circumference decreases so the ABS/ESP system will notice that the tyre is spinning quicker than the others .

An active system relies on individual pressure monitors being fitted to each wheel/tyre. The active systems will be a lot more accurate than the passive. The passive system will only notice a large drop in PSI not a small one.

Had my tyres changed a month or so ago.  Didn't notice any special sensors behind the valves on the rims - similar to the ones on my previous car.

Someone on this forum suggested the tyre pressure control worked using a ride height sensor...so I guess that was a bit of "bum fluff" - put politely!

Unless you purchase an aftermarket setup, the stock golfgti has the passive system. I had a drop of 10psi before the warning came on.

I have the aftermarket TPMS and its great.
I've hardwired it into my car as i was going to leave it permanently connected.
However it does emit an annoying loud beep when you start the ignition
so i plug it in only when i want to check the tyre pressures.
