New suspension time !
« on: February 27, 2014, 06:01:14 pm »
Hello

I would like to no which of the following is the best value for money, I'm replacing the suspension on my edition 30 but would like to sport the handling up and lower it at the same time

My options are, do I go for a coilover set up or one of the following 2 listed below

Koni STR.T kit - http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/suspension-kits/car/volkswagen/golf-mk5-gti/2007/2-0-turbo/koni-str-t-suspension-kit-lowers-front-40mm-and-lowers-rear-40mm - price £410

Or

Bilstein b12 sportline - http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/suspension-kits/car/volkswagen/golf-mk5-gti/bilstein-b12-sportline-suspension-kit-lowers-front-45-50mm-rear-30-35mm - price £726

Is the Bilstein worth the extra over the koni ?

I may go on a few track days this year, I'm not fussed about the car being slammed but would like a nice low stance but enough to be able to live with day to day over speed humps, potholes, etc

The maximum I want to spend is 6 700 quid weather it be updated sport suspension or coilovers

All feedback welcome

Thanks jake

I don't know the price by heart, but I would strongly recommend the KW V1's I have them on my GTI, a friend on her R32 and on the work van (Caddy) the ride is great and they really improve the handling, FYI the wietec kit is exactly the same but doesn't have the anti corrosion coating and is a fair bit cheaper.

I've got some H&R ultra lows coil overs for sale. offer as close to OEM comfort as you can find but you can get the height adjusted to whatever you want. plus they are progressive springs meaning they 'react' when driven harder to give you better handling.

There's absolutely loads of reviews/discussions on this scattered throughout this forum.
It'll come down to personal preference/budget in the end, everyone has their favourite (which will most likely be the equipment they have fitted) .

I can speak for the B12 Pro kit that I have though...not excessively low (not as low as that which you highlighted) so if a low stance is your objective over excellent dynamics these may disappoint you.
They are a good setup for road and can manage some track use. I'm not going to say that it's better than 'this' or 'that' though. Consider ARB's as a tandem upgrade. If you get the choice of components right they'll compliment each other perfectly.

I'm certain that there are many other excellent choices which will be mentioned here.

I would suggest talking to a decent independant specialist who has experience of installing and setting up. They'll have good advice for you.  :happy2:

Thanks for the feedback so far guys  :happy2:

The bilsteins are my preferred choice, but now I'm toying the idea of a set of kw v1 coilovers

Flashp do you have any other pics of your car on the b12's ?

Cheers again guys

Jake
