Here's how I installed my camera.

I fitted mine up behind the rear view mirror



I secured the power lead to the mirror stalk and pushed it under the head lining to the A pillar





I then removed the A pillar trim (there's a screw behind the airbag tag and then just pull the trim off), and secured the power lead behind the airbag. No photo of that bit I'm afraid but once the trim is off you'll see where to cable tie it



Run the power lead into the fuse box on the drivers side



I didn't want to cut the plug off the end of the power lead so bought the socket I linked to previously. If using the same sort of thing then cut the red crocodile clip off and crimp the piggy back fuse holder to the wire



Cut the black crocodile clip off and crimp a ring terminal on the wire and attach this to an earth point



I connected the piggy back fuse holder to a spare switched fuse way and fitted a 2A fuse



I then just tidied everything up

I'm guessing it would be very similar on a MK7 but I've never been in one so can't say for sure.

Apart from the dash cam, crimpers and terminals is there anything else required?

Just ordered one off eBay, turns out the bloke loved down the road so has just dropped it off.
Now mine has 3 wires, live, switched live and earth.

Can I put the lives into fuses that are the same, so put the live cable I'm and push a live fuse in to hold it in?

If it needs a switched supply & a permanent supply you need to fuse them separately. The permanent supply will be for parking mode I would think. I wasn't worried about that which is why I connected it to a switched supply. Bear in mind that if it's recording/monitoring while parked it will be draining the battery. I have seen a little box of electronics you can buy that switches the camera off if the battery reaches a certain level so won't drain it completely

The add said the perm. Live was required as it doesn't have an internal battery.
I only want it recording when I'm driving so can i just ignore that live then?

I'm slightly lost here.

Bring dash cam power cable down to fuse box ok. What do I do with the existing dash cam connection point? i.e. how do I connect it to the enw AUX leads and piggback?

If you have the same cigarette lighter socket that I got, it will fit next to the fuse box so the dash cam power lead can plug into it. Its shown all connected in the last photo.

The camera stays permanently connected to the socket so will start recording as soon as you switch the ignition on

It's like having a cigarette lighter/12v power socket in the fuse box cubby hole
