over boost after remap

I recently got my car remapped with a Quantum map. I know what people will say about deviating from revo, rtec etc but I was attracted by the price and how close the tuner was.


Anyway, when I first got it mapped the car went into limp mode a few times. Always at very low revs and in a high gear. No lights on dash, just a loss of power and everything was fine again with an ignition cycle. I took it back and it gave an over boost code. The guy mentioned that he thinks it is a hardware issue and mentioned possible issues with the actuator along with the n75 valve but reluctantly offered to lower the boost on the map to see if it would make a difference. I've had the new map 2 weeks and have had limp mode once since.

Has any one else experienced anything similar or have you any idea what could cause this.

To add to this my mpg seems to have dropped by about 3-4 mpg since I had it done. I thought it would improve mpg.

P0234
- charge pressure control; regulating limit surpassed.
- permanent

If the issue started immediately after the remap then there's a good chance that either there was an underlying fault with the car which the remap has highlighted, or more likely, the map is crap. Have them put it back to stock and see if problem goes away..

What is the car boosting at, actual and requested.. ?

Sorry matey, but this is a prime example of why people on the forum recommend the brands / tuners you have listed. I've lost count of how many times I've suggested someone doesn't get drawn in by price or location when they are wanting to tune their pride & joy 

Surely you would want someone who actually understands the TFSI? Did they give your car a health check before? Or did they just upload the map and send you on your way?

I think if the remap is throwing the car into limp mode then it's clearly trying to ask too much of the car. If the tuner still can't fix it (and was reluctant to) then I'd suggest you either get the tuner to flash it back to stock, and push for a refund, or you take it to a reputable place and get a proper map

Thanks for the reply. I will be going back to stock until the issue is identified. I just figured that as the overboost condition appears when at low revs and high gears it may be a hardware problem. I assume the higher the revs the higher the boost and it hasnt happened high in the rev range. I'm no expert so please correct me if im wrong.

I don't know any info on the boost levels as no logs were taken after the map was put on.

Does anyone know of any particular hardware issues that would cause overboost at low revs and high gears?

When i say reluctant i meant reluctant to make changes without looking into any under lying hardware problems. All in, the company have been very good in terms of service and support.

I have a local revo dealer and wanted to go the revo route but due to the cost it was this or nothing at all.

So i take it that most would look to the map as the main issue rather than something else.

Did you have any luck finding the error? I'm also a stage 1 Quantum and have the same error. I can trigger it quite easily in 4th, by stomping on the gas pedal at ~3000 RPM.

Its a common issues with tfsi maps from Quantum I have had a good 10+ cars in with the same issues.   Its because they use driver pack maps from alientech and dimsport which have 100s of map addressees missing which basically just allows them to wind up the boost.   If you google remaps you will find every tom dick and harry trying to become tuners based on the alientech and dimsport systems which allows tuner to go "lets add 20% more boost it should feel quicker"   This allows them to offer tuning for car they have never seen before but give them the option to wind up the power to make a quicker earner.    IMHO a tuner who says they can tune every car going from a mini to transit van, of a jetski to volvo lorry... avoid them. you will find the only thing going to them is the price nothing more.   Go find a local tuner who is a specialist in xyz engines and pay that little extra.

Okay, so my car had the same problems, but managed to get it sorted. I took it to a rolling road where they put it on the dyno and analyzed the map. I've attached a screenshot of the dyno run that shows a missfire ~5300. Apparently, besides the problems mentioned in the thread, the map also requests a very very very rich mixture (0.6 lambda). As you all probably know, that is very dangerous to the engine, so honestly, my only advice right now to those who still have this map on their cars: get it changed! Also, what I'm saying here is very easy to prove using a VCDS (VAG-COM) log that plots 'Target lambda' against RPM at a high engine load.

This shows that the Quantum Tuning stage 1 map for the 2.0 TFSI is not only bad for performance, but has the potential to seriously damage your engine's hardware.

I think the moral of the story here is when offered a choice of Quantum remap or a selection of 6 inch nails through your todger take the nail option every time.

Not just Quantum, any tuning company that offer to tune every type of vehicle as Niki described above, i've seen it first hand with a local 'tuning company' (i use the word tuning very loosely here). They get a map pack supplied and with little knowledge just increase the boost values and fiddle with the fuelling and do very little else. No understanding, no data logging, just fool everyone with their advertising that they offer custom mapping for every type of vehicle.
