Also remember to do tracking or better still a full geometry setup

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

conti sport contact 3 no good?

They're good too. My joint first choice.
Got these on the rear and Michelin PE2's on the front as I bought it like that :congrats:

vredestein ultrac sessantas rock.

on a side not ive heard alot of people have had that same issue with the dunlops, usually on the rears

Just in the process of changing my Dunlops to Vredesteins. Awful tyres Dunlops for road rumble, worst on smooth surfaces.

For £85 a corner, you cant do better for value/performance. Good reviews aswell for Vredesteins.

So far on mine I've had.....

Conti sport contact 2's...not bad, but don't last long
Conti sport contact 3's...IMO worse than the 2's
Goodyear F1 Eagle's...Very good and dry grip is superb and wet grip is good too.
Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's...Very good again, IMO a little better in the wet than the Eagle's and cheaper. My local tyre dealer is selling these by the bucket load and has had nothing but praise in feedback. The only downside I've heard is that they last a little less miles than the Eagles.
TOYO R888's (GG). Phenomenal grip in the dry.....not as bad as people make out in the wet. I can't recommend them as a daily driver tyre over winter, but as a summer tyre they get my vote.....just don't expect them to last too long.

Golf R gone.

Just had mine in for its 20,000mile service..Dealer rang me said the front 2 tyres are worn but the rears are perfect,(der!) and do I want them replacing with Dunlops they have in stock..(£130 each btw)..I said I have Conti,s on why would I want Dunlops?.I,m only guessing on the look on his face but he sounded confused I would ask that..
Thing is I would,nt dream on having the front two or rear for that matter different than the other two.Is that just me?,does it matter?..So its Conti's for me,but when all 4 need changing going with Eagles.

You need to look at why they've failed...

What you'll find is the geometry is all to cock from the factory, so it scrubs the tyres in a strange way, turning them into 20p shapes and making them rumble.

£5 says the camber and toe in will be miles out on the rear and not exactly great on the front, get a 4 wheel laser alignment - or you'll be forking out for tyres sooner than you need again.
Sideways yo!

That's odd because I always found them to last ages and were very noisey. I put this down to being a harder compound. The final straw was when one deformed on the rear creating a very annoying drumming noise - deformation is apparently not uncommon with Conti Contact 2s. Switched to the Goodyears and have never looked back. The price difference between the Goodyears and Michelins is not reflected in their performance.

My only gripe with the Goodyears is they don't seem to like the cold, but then - what tyres do aside from proper winter ones? You should be driving more carefully this time of year as a matter of course.
Only 250.1bhp - but with that noise, who cares?

1) Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric
2) Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

I've tried both above and there is nothing between them, stunning tyres but I don't think I'd pay extra for the goodyears (the rim protector is much better though). Had conti 2's on it originally which were dangerous and would never buy again. I've not tried ps2's on the gti but tried them on another car and found them lethal in the wet but really sharp in the dry.

Just a reminder The costco offer is on for a couple more days if anyone is in the market for Michelin PS2's at a good price

Probably won't be back until Feb-March next year based on previous offers
