Underseat Drawers
« on: January 19, 2010, 09:07:06 pm »
Dear All,

2 days before ordering VW stopped taking factory orders for the Edition 30 - typical - just my luck.  One of the options I would have liked to have specced was the storage pack option to include the under seat drawers for £80 ... another option for £50 I would have liked if I would have known about it at the time was highline DOH  :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:    .......... but thats another story.

Having seen the thread here :- http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=9339.0 , and the debate that went with it regarding fitting I decided to try my luck with the fitting - I figured that I could try and follow this http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2228 from another forum.

Well, they fit ... albeit not with the screw fastners that VW show on ETKA, but yes they do fit an Edition 30, mine has the RCD500 and soundpack i.e. WITH THE AMP under the passenger seat and it still fits, even with the seat lowered as far as it goes ( I am OCD enough to insist that both driver and passenger seats are level and that means lowered as far as they go).

I would like to add that it makes the seat look more "complete" and dependant on how well you know your friendly VW parts advisor were roughly £35 a set a side.  For that you get a drawer, a drawer holder, a J bracket and 2 rivets, you'll need longer self tappers than those supplied by VW.

A really really nice interior mod for you OEM+ modders out there.

Any questions on install please feel free to ask,

Kindest Regards,

Gareth  :happy2:

I just paid £48 for the brackets, draw, holder and rivets that you mention for my GTI from my local dealer . Its sat boxed up atm, how easy is install? I'm a bit anxious about it being tricky tbh.

I think it's a quality mod and it had been on the to-do list for ages  :innocent:
Will hold my maglite perfectly.
Pete

It's really really easy - just buy longer self tapping screws and wen doing it remember to adjust the seat to it's highest (height adjustment, worked that out doing the driver side (having already struggled with the passenger side) - it was easy - no longer than 15 - 20 mins per side.

Just out of curiosity was the £48 just for one side ?

Regards,

Gareth

It was fella, that's what I was charged anyway. I only need a drivers side and thus didn't buy the passenger side.
That's reassuring that it was easy. Where did you get your tapping screws from?
Why would VW supply some that aren't long enough? Strange  :chicken:

This looks like a great wee mod, not too expensive or time consuming. Nice one  :happy2:

ive fancied these for a while, but cant justify them as my car never really gets loaded where i need the space so it would be a just  'because i can' mod.

do things not roll around in there? my daughter left a drink stirrer in the door a while ago...drove me made wondering what rattled when the bass went up, i thought one of the speakers was on its way out. everytime i looked in the door i saw nothing as it was so slim and rolled to where i couldnt spot it each time

Yes post some part numbers please for both sides.

Also it might be worth pointing out that if you have the premium BT then you can only do the passenger side.

Hmm, strange. I'd thought the Bluetooth was no bigger than the soundpack amp. Does it use the drawer mounts?

Ok maybe I should re-phrase with BT the seat draw may not fit. The cover of the BT module would need moving and possibilly so would the bracket its mounted on.

Pics will follow tomorrow, if the wind wasn't so strong and the car parked so close to the wall .... you're seeing where I'm going with this  :surprised: then I'd go and take some now - but they will follow soon.

Yes two seconds, you need a rivet gun too though, but as I said remember to "heighten" the seat i.e using the height adjuster pump it up to full extension .... oh arr missus !!
