Autohaus-Wolfsburg plate surrounds
« on: July 21, 2010, 04:19:03 pm »
I really like the look of these on the back, think the number plate looks naked without some kind of surround. So I decided to order some. Forgive me for my ignorance however, but iam unaware of the company in questions significance? Is it just were gtis are manufactured or is there something else. Thanks.

Wolfsburg is the town in Germany where VWs are manufactured.  "Autohaus" simply means "car house".

I have the pressed plates for my MK5.
When I had my MK3 I had some of hte surrounds and thought they looked great, (apart from the one on the front spitting my number plate out somewhere on the M6!)
Does anyone have any pics of them on the MK5 to show how they look?

Autohaus Wolfsburg I believe refers to the factory VW dealership.

Hi peeps. I got my plate surrounds through the post this morning, but there isn't any instructions. Is it a simple job and easy to work out which way round it goes? As the bit with the lettering on doesn't seem to attach on to anywhere on the front (or what I think is the front!)Thanks for your help and sorry for the silly question.

The lettering bit clicks in place...I think you just slide the number plate in the main surround then the lettering bit clicks in place over it to hold the number in place.

You have to screw the main bit to your car...the rear is easy...the front I think you have two choices,

1. remove the front bumper and pop out the existing number plate holder OR
2. more messily but easier just screw the new number plate holder on top. (I opted for this, the lazy way)

Depends how fussy you are really, others can advise you on the best way to do 1, as I couldnt be arsed with it.

Thanks that helps. I don't think I'll bother with the front then because that sounds like a lot of effort! Has anyone got any pics with them on mk5s? Front and back. Thanks.

They look fantastic! Good job  :congrats:
Regarding the fronts, did you have to take the whole front bumper off? The German plates also look great, where did you get them done?

Thank you! I've actually just mounted it on top of the oem surround but it does stick out a bit now so one day when I have time/have got the bottle I'll try taking the bumper off! I got plates and surrounds from awesomegti store, had them 5 years or so now but only just back in a german car agen!

Might have a look at their site. My surrounds look differant to yours, do you think maybe mine are an older version?? They have their website across, on the left the vw badge and on the right the wolf. Sorry can't post pic at minute.

It's probably mine that are old mate, had them a few years, there are many different styles though so I wouldn't worry too much. :happy2:
