DSG Needs Service?

Hi All

Being new to having DSG I'm not sure if I'm making something out of nothing here, but I'm curious to understand what symptoms are experienced when the DSG system needs a little TLC.

On the odd occasion, especially from cold the changes have seemed everso slightly, well, hesitant and a bit clunky. It doesn't appear a problem when accelerating hard and changes appear to be seamless, but when changing down it feels slightly hesitant with a slight jerk.

It's an 07 car under warranty so maybe it's something that needs attention? Do all DSG systems do this?

I just had mine done and the car feels a lot better to drive now. Placebo effect or actual difference not sure but the gear changes definately feel smoother.

It has also been suggested at 4 years as well by TT on here.  I had similar issues to what you describe with the cold hesitation in gear change and poor down shifts in manual.  mine is an 05 and had 32k on the clock, having it serviced gave an improvement, but the biggest improvement came from getting a basic reset done on the box, which forces it to re-learn the shift points and clutch control, its now a hell of a lot smoother and manual paddle shifts are much better. 

Basic settings can be done via VCDS or I would suspect you VW garage, since its in warranty I would certainly ask them to investigate, that way you have DSG logged as a known fault during warranty period which could be very handy should you experience any issues later in its life.

2nd that, after my dsg service, gear changes smoothened out alot better .

Worth getting it serviced ,and ask them to do Basic settings on Vagcom again on the box.

i got mine done and the gear changes did feel smoother, although the guy who did it said everytime he's changed the dsg oil the oil that comes out is always clean....  but better safe than sorry i say....

Carl, is that any main VW dealer?

And does that inc the oil change?

I paid £168.72 at my Skoda dealer (car is an Octavia DSG). That was for an oil & filter change on the DSG box. I would expect most dealers are around the same price although it will depend on their labour charge. This also included the basic settings for the box. Most dealers will price match aswell

It's not something they can do quickly. I dropped my car off at 08:30 and didn't get it back till 15:00. They have to let the car cool down, drain the oil, change the filter, refill with oil, get the car up to a certain temperature, do some checks on it using VAS and then do the basic settings.

I'll dig the receipt out later and tell you what the exact break down was.

Ok Breakdown is as follows

Filter - £9.78
Oil - £10.51 per litre x 6 - £63.06

Total Parts = £72.84

Labour Charge - £70.75

VAT - £25.13

Total Cost = £168.72

This was at a Main Dealer (Skoda in my case)

I have just had the dsg fluid changed on my edition 30 and it has made a big difference.

I have one question though do they reset the ecu while doing it, because im just worried about the revo settings which are on there?

^^ hopefully not, if not there is a small fee that revo dealer will charge you for reflashing it .

Are you talking about the Engine ECU or the Gearbox ECU for the REVO DSG software?

Either way i don't think they reset the ECU
