Hi Nathan,

The best bit of advice I can give you is DON'T buy a focus ST if you plan on tuning it. The engines aren't strong enough for the power they have as standard. Loads of the lads on focusstoc.com have had they're cylinder liners split - which means you need a new engine :scared:

I've had an ST (& 2 civic type r's). The golf does on average 8mpg better than the focus and has less parts prone to failure, that's why I got rid of the focus for the golf  :happy2:

yeah the focus is pretty brash and a bit chavvy anyway, umm the golf then, what sort of mileage do u get to a full tank ect? obv it differs how you drive it, but i work with my dad and work shifts so i only have to drive my car once every two weeks with the ocassional blast on the weekend, ive seen one golf its a 54 plate in red full VW service history, full leather and 58000 miles, for £7949, does that seem good to you?

That price sounds ok for the spec

I get on average about 37mpg with a mix of town & cross country driving. It's easily capable of 42+ mpg on a motorway run on a warm day! That equates to about 480miles to a tank - I doubt anyone else gets that on here though. Lol

Crikey - mine is getting roughly 24mpg and about 320 miles to a tank, brimmed to 0 miles left! Although mine is stage 2 and driven reasonably hard!

Hi & welcome mate :happy2:

I mainly do short journeys (with a couple of longer ones per month) as mine is not used for commuting. I usually get about 24-26 mpg (although did get 33-34 mpg on a longer journey while leaving my lead boots at home), which works out to about 300 miles on a full tank (usually only fill up 1/2 to 3/4 of the tank to keep weight down).

EDIT
Also make sure you look out for rust on the older ones. There are some threads in the general area with details.
