@white91 to be honest I never even noticed the sills or even the drivers side arch. I couldn't see any rust but the body shop manager said he could see it...either way I'm not complaining! Not bad for getting all that done when I was expecting a outright no in the first place!

Hey guys
My car is booked in for this trip for vw in Stirling to take a look.
They say they need it for half a day to check it out any advise before hand as av just got a funny feeling there going to hit me with some crap.
As even why I phoned up and booked it in the guy I spoke to was a bit rude and just well a prat to put it politely.
He asked for my Reg plate and I told him it but I said I am in the process of putting my private plate on the car.
He said no don't do that I said why will it effect the warranty (knowing it shouldn't )
An the guy was like well yea it mite.
I said how can this be possible
As I still know the Reg
Any way if the v5 capital Mrs back the plates going on

They are having you on in the half a day inspection. It was half an hour for me. All they do is use a little gadget to check the paint depth and see if there has previously been any repairs to that area, record it and that's it. The other stuff is them reporting back to vw UK.
But yes it is a good idea to ring up and book a time in first as the warranty manager isn't always in that branch. They usually cover different branches.
Regarding the private plate, it is worth holding off putting the private plate on unt after the warranty job as that would help them to bring up all your records with vw. If they have all your records they should be more inclined to help you and keep you satisfied.

Thanks mate
I didn't think this would be a major issue aslongs I kept note of the Reg that was on the car.
Problem is if the v5 comes back with the private plate on it before this fri when the car is due in at vw.
If I don't put my plate on it I am driving it illegally
Really

Having recently had the sill repaired due to an altercation with the kerb (had both sills done at the front too due to rust at the same time), I've now noticed the offside arch is bubbling!  Phoned up the dealer we bought it from as approved used, and they are sending someone to our house to assess it this week, don't even need to take it to them.  Impressed by this, lets just hope they agree it needs fixing.......

top of the front wheel arch on the flat lip. as a clock would show it at the 12 o'clock position

Just had same, purchased car March as approved used and noticed off side arch bubbling yesterday. Spoke to Body shop this am and they are sending someone out end of week to inspect. If source is from the usual problem area they are covering 100%. All gone far to easy so far.

yep, sills right at the front just behind the wing.  Courtesy of a really naff VW design so it just attracts crap in there and rusts due to stress put on the joint during manufacture at the factory.  You'll be lucky to get them done foc though, best will be 50% contribution or nothing at all!

Contacted my local VW dealer today and have arranged a day to bring the car in to take pictures and depth of paint.
They then said they need to fill in some paper work and send it off to be authorised.

Let's hope all goes well.

I had my front wings replaced last week under warranty.  I hadn't even noticed the paintwork was starting to bubble, but it was in at the dealers for something unrelated it and they spotted it and got it sorted for me :happy2:

If yours is just over 10 years and get denied by one branch its worth trying another as this happened to me and second branch I tried accepted all cost of repair.

Just bought a 55 plate Golf with bubbling arches, a lot of rust bubbles at the bottom of the VW badge on the back.  I'm very heartened with these stories of people getting their rust sorted under warranty and hoping I can too.

My car will be in to Burton on Trent VW dealers next week to see what they say.  Car was registered in August 2005 so not quite 10 years old yet.

Any hints/tips about what to say when I arrive?

James
