Can I stop leather creasing??
« on: July 04, 2009, 08:42:23 pm »
Im taking a trip up north in a few weeks - 300 miles there, and 300 miles back.
I will have both my children in the back, in their car seats, and a fifth passenger in the back.

Since I have a ED30, I have part leather, and the rear middle seat is obviously all leather.
No-one has ever sat there, so it has no creases etc.
I also tend to clean and condition the leather now and then.

Is there any way of protecting the seat so I dont get creases in the leather? Maybe some kind of protective stuff I can apply to keep it supple?

I think as long as you treat the leather before and after, it should be okay. You can't stop creases unless you don't let anyone sit in the car, but you can reduce the effect by looking after the leather.

you could try putting a thick blanket across the back seat to help abit and as said treat the leather before you go.   there is a way to slightly shrink leather with heat but this has to be done with great caution.
IMO the 1 journey shouldnt effect it anyway

This is deffo a one off.
I'll make sure I clean and condition the leather before and after the journey, and I had already thought about putting something down on the seat, a few towels etc, before anyone sat on it!!

you can warm the leather with a heat gun after your journey be carefull not to burn it though, or use a steamer mate these should drop the creases out for you :happy2:

Surely with all the hot weather, the leather would tighten anyway? I sat in my car this evening after it had sat outside in the sun and the seats were scorchingly hot.

Get a few throws for the back mate, £2 in primark

Condition the leather (by hand, microfibres will remove protections on the leather) leave to dry over nite and repeat if you want.

Depends on how much you wanna spend.
LTT leather care stuff is supposed to be good but expensive.
Glipitone is what I use and is cheaper and adequate.
The halfrauds stuff is cheap but nasty.

Is this what I need.......

http://www.partsforsaabs.com/product_info.php?products_id=31

http://www.partsforsaabs.com/product_info.php?products_id=32

Thats the cheapest I could find them!!! But they sting you with £5 postage!!

Although my leather is pretty clean as it is, I thought it would be best to us ethe cleaner before i condition them anyways??

Can anyone explain exactly how to use these products??
Do I use a cloth with the cleaner, then rub the conditioner in by hand etc??
Thanks
