Wavetrac vs quaife differential

Can anyone help me with this. I'm looking to get a diff for my golf gti mk5. I'm torn between the quaife and the wavetrac. Hope someone can help me out.

Can only comment on quaife and it's fantastic the best mod I ever did it just helps the car so much on turn in and just driving quick.

Wavetrac's are meant to be the dog's dangleys as I believe they work slightly different compared to a normal diff (feel free for someone to come along and correct me)

Hello... Peloquins.

I sell Peloquins, but will fit Wavetrac and Quaife if I have to.  I only sell Peloquins for the reason I believe them to be the best.  I prefer the feel of them, and the quality is fantastic.

They specifically do me a higher torque version of their diffs which kick and drive more like a plate diff.

I have the Wavetrac and its great, Statllers fitted it and Steve said probably a superior diff to the Quaife one he had on his own ED30.

End of the day all three will do their job... so it depends on price and where you want to get it fitted ie if you live in the North go to Statllers and if you live further South go see Alex and get the Peloquin. Simples.

+1 for Wavetrac. I took advice from JKM. Jim has a lot of track experience and in his opinion it was the current better choice, but he did say any will be a massive improvement over an open diff.
Most owners may not have driven on others, I certainly haven't. I'm sure they're all good and go about the same job admirably compared to not having one.

Good advice here was to have it supplied and fitted locally.

I will say in favour for the Wavetrac having given it a thorough workout on track and road it works so smoothly that the only way you know it's there is because you can drive your car in a way that you previously couldn't. Wet roads will be your new favourite playtime!

Guess the comments/recommends will come down to experiences and usage. And different tuner experience.

I was pondering a 'slippy diff' and wondered about whether it was worth the outlay. Some said no..others said yes.

It is an expensive thing to 'invest in'...but I eventually had one fitted to my Ed30 last summer.

It's a fantastic mod for the enthusiastic driver. I find the way it now claws out of bends quite a revelation.

For what it's worth after a quick run out in a certain blue Skoda in slippy conditions..I listened to Alex and punted a Peloquin Hi Torque diff into mine. Well worth putting one in a fwd car in my view.

Whatever choice made either Q or W or even a P. It makes it drive so much better.

Thanks for all the help and advice. How much are the peloquins hi torque diffs and how much to fit it. Have your upgraded your clutch aswel. If so what clutch have you gone for. I'm lookin at a loba sacks paddle clutch. If any of your have had one of these how much did you pay for it and where from or any clutch like this

Well for info my St2+ Ed30 is a manual.
When I got the diff fitted the standard clutch had def seen better days. So replaced that with an uprated Helix (iirc).
Also put in a new dual mass flywheel as wanted a fairly oem feel to the pedal etc.
There are various choices out there.

As mentioned mine was all supplied and fitted by Alex at AKS.
So my suggestion would be a call to him in the first instance..especially in terms of the Peloquin H/T diffs.
Then decide on what products you need and where to source it all/ who to fit it etc.
Unless of course you have the knowledge/ability to fit yourself etc.

Dunno what remap you have on yours but a linear throttle map on my Revo mapped car aids the diff action too.
Might be worth a look if you're Revo'd already.

Peloquin here...one of the best mods for track. However, keep in mind in certain situations when there is mud/sand/dust on the road and one wheel catches it, the car may suddenly pull to one side. Happened to me 3 times, once on the Nurburgring !
