omg what a difference.
« on: August 12, 2015, 08:25:42 pm »
Just finished doing a valve clean and glad i did. The amount of carbon build up was scary. Only on 58k but surprised they even worked lol.
cleaned them up and done rfd along with s3 injectors and rs4 valve. Car feels so much better. Revs nice and freely and feels alot more alive. Dont have any harsh starts but well see what its like during winter.
Just waiting for a few last bits so i can go stage 3 and make the most out of the new mods.
anyone that hasnt had the valves cleaned i strongly recommend they do.

Ill try and get some pics up soon.
yer i done it at home on the drive while doing cambelt kit and full service.

Yer its a common problem which is why people either get the pcv delete kit or run a catch can.

Water meth also help reduce the build up

A good specialist will be well aware of the need for this.
If they don't know about it I'd venture to say that they're not as good as they think they are so go elsewhere.

Interesting - not heard of this and my idle isn't consistent.

Would a carbon cleaning service sort this out (like Terraclean)? I know opinion is divided on this service but I watched the episode on Wheeler Dealers where they carbon cleaned an XK8 with amazing results!

Terraclean will not clean the valves, the stuff is baked on and needs proper elbow crease to remove! Over glorified petrol/solvent cleaner being sprayed on to it is not going to shift it

So is Terraclean inferior to other decoking processes that will remove carbon deposits or is this an unusual place to get carbon deposits that can't be cleaned by a 'process'?

Its baked on and needs to be scrapped off with elbow grease. Seafoam and terraclean wont cut it and will waist time and money.
