I'm actually getting pretty fed up of this car I have to say.
Sold my 145k 325Ci running as sweet as a nut to get a newer lower mileage car for work commuting. I fancied a change and was chasing a few rust spots around on the edges here and there.
So far with this 50k GTI I have learnt in 3 months of ownership that I have needed or will need to:
1/ Check & change cam follower that could damage the engine Thankfully this was fine but I changed it anyway - Potential £800+ damage avoided only because of this club.
2/ I need to replace the cam chain and tensioner (hopefully not adjuster) due to diesel sound when fully warm that didn't manifest itself on my 20 minute test drive at purchase - £500 parts and labour
3/ Clean up coking on valves - £500
4/ Hope my wings don't rust.
5/ Change split DV - £40 every few years possibly
The car has been well maintained and has only done 50k! My last VW, a 1986 Jetta TX was designed so much better in comparison.
I also have a 1993 MR2 Turbo putting out 245bhp as standard on 115k that just needs servicing once a year.
