Bert's GT Sport TSI 140 - Stage 1 Revo :)
« on: August 13, 2015, 02:08:52 pm »
:pomppomp: Hello all :) I'm new to this forum and I thought this would be the place to show my car :driver:
My old petrol VW Polo I had (First car) finally died after 180k so I decided to buy this car at the start of June 2015, its an '08 TSi GT Sport with 60k on the clock.
Since my brief owner ship I have;
  • Replaced the Timing chain
  • Replaced the water pump
  • Changed all the interior halogen lamps for 6000k Leds
  • Changed the Headlights/ Sidelights/ Foglights/ Mainbeams for 6000k also
  • Changed the original RCD300 for a newer Led RNS510
  • Glovebox Mdi
  • the old Hazard switch for a Cherry red one
  • TSI inserts in the seats
  • GT Sport gear knob cover

I aim to do alot more depending on funds! such as GTI Steering wheel, JOM Springs,R32 Rear lights, Monza 2s, Paint the plastic black bumper to steel grey, GTI Front end with GT badge, painting brake calipers ect.

After a happy weekend of cleaning for the first time!

As I bought it

Updated interior

Thanks :) the interior was immaculate and the exterior was pretty good, a slight dent on the rear left quarter panel but I've got chips away to come soon! Then I'll start the heavy modding stuff haha

I Have a few items en route to my car such as a MK7 GTI Gear knob and the MK5 GTI Steering wheel with grey stitching, so my wages are being stretched much to the missus' disgust! So after seeing @millar95 painting his brake calipers recently It gave me the courage to use a day off work productively (and incredibly cheaply!)
I popped down to Halfords and got myself some Gunk Degreaser, a Hammerite Smooth silver spray can, a 1inch brush and some heat resistant red caliper paint and I went to work...

^Before shot

^During shot, please don't mock my paint on the pad fascia... I did clean it off!!! :ashamed: :ashamed:

^ Finished product, overall I'm pleased with the results and was a nice easy and somewhat therapeutic mod and easy on my wallet too! about £20! ( I Know my allows need some TLC unfortunately the ape I bought it of loved a curb)

I also picked up a used set of GTI Pedals from @Wooosh for a good price and fitted them, (The throttle pedal is interesting to remove!) just need a OEM foot rest one now!

Left it parked in the road at my girlfriends parents house for 1 night. It's a private road with no turning and a dead end. Some oxygen thief decided to scratch my drivers door and smashed the glass in my wing mirror :fighting:

Had a fella from chips away pop round and he charged me £0 for a quick repair on my drivers door , its still visible but no where near unbearable.

And a lovely DHL Driver dropped this off for me, all the way from Germany.

Hopefully fit this tonight now!

Gear knob is very nice. You'll need to cut a bit of the metal stick and be patient fitting the gaiter to your surround.

The door is much better.

be patient for the gaitor fitting to the surround is one way of putting it....
My stapler won't staple through the plastic which is rather frustrating tbh
and if you want a mk7 gear knob don't go on any website like bold sport but go on German ebay (www.ebay.de) and search for a Mk7 golf schaltknauf I paid £57 all in:happy2:

Played around with the leather a tad from these finished photos however its in, working and is secure! :star:
not as many people described it as "a simple mod" but wasn't too difficult and it isn't all that common.

Before

During <- too late to go back

Grinding down the shaft for the new one to fit! (Bit of a squeaky bum moment)

After (note I refixed the leather after this shot as the left corner had released itself)

Had a positive trip to the isle of wight recently to see my missus holiday home for the year :), whilst I was there thought it would be a shame to not visit @v4rley with his big box of led lamps...

He also very quickly changed my theme on my RNS510 to the darker of the 3 available (I found it was too bright at night other wise)

Very nice car and a good base for mods :).
IMO it's one of the best color you can find on a mk5 and the interior is looking really fresh. Even if there are no pictures of the LED lamps I know they look awesome on your color. Some ED30 front and rear valances will complete the look.
Did you install the GTI steering wheel? I am curious to see how it looks with grey stitching?

And regarding the MK7 gear knob, why did you have to cut the top off (maybe @Shoduchi could help with an answer)?

@rex the mk7 gaiter is too short for the mk5/6 gear stick. It wouldn't fit otherwise.

I've seen someone doing this mod many months ago and he complained about the work required and that he had to cut the stick a bit.

Thanks man! means alot coming from you :). I will get some pictures up eventually of the Led upgrades as it completely transforms the interior and is such an easy simple mod. As for the exterior I only have LED sidelights but have bought 6000k equivalent halogen headlight/main beams, Looking to get LED front fogs too as some stage.

I was looking into the front and rear valances but my first thought was the GTI side skirts. It's been a quick turn around on my car so far so its a tad pricey!

As for the GTI steering wheel, I bought one and was due to be delivered but so far hasn't shown up and the courier in question hasn't updated any of the tracking since last week - currently looking into my insurance to get some money back :|

as @Shoduchi said, The gaiter is too short for the original shaft, its not the easiest job for an inexperienced modder however I can write up a quick guide if need be - I have step by step pictures but I wasn't sure anyone wanted to see that amount of pictures haha! I was just lucky I'm an electrician by trade and had all the tools I needed anyway!
