2008 GTi cam follower
« on: August 13, 2015, 07:42:53 pm »
I replaced my cam follower this afternoon at 62,000 miles after reading all the horror stories on the net about them.

I used the kit from Awesome GTi which came with new bolts and seal and of course, the follower.

Could someone have a look at the photos and let me know if this is the normal sort of wear for an 08 car, to be honest I was expecting worse.  It looks like some of the coating on the contact area has worn away and that's about it.

I'm trying to see if its worth doing every 60k or so or whether the later models can just be left alone.

What do you think?

Thanks chaps, I think i'll just leave it and check it again in another 60k.

I wonder if they upgraded the later model years?

Mine looked the same when I did mine last week.  2007 with 77k.  Only just bought the car, so unsure if it had been done.

I'm planning on replacing mine soon, is the process to change these over relatively straight forward? I'd say I'm average with a set of spanners and will most jobs a go, or should I let the dealers do it when I change over my cam belt at the end of the month?
