Mdi iphone5 connection issues
« on: July 16, 2015, 11:50:28 pm »
Evening all,

Ive been having this issue for an age now, so have decided to seek help finally!

I have a mdi armrest kit connected to a RCD310 via a genuine iphone5 connector (green from memory). More often than not, when I plug the lead into the phone, nothing happens....doesnt register on the phone or the stereo. So i unplug and try the connector the other way and it will 8 out of 10 times show as charging the phone - being able to access the phone library is another matter.

I have to say. 4 out of 10 times it connects and at least shows the music, but it wont play the tracks (or worse, it shows as playing on the HU but nothing comes through the speakers!)..

When i do actually get it to play music via the phone, pretty much 100% of the time, it will disconnect, freeze for a couple of seconds and then reboot from where the track stopped.

So where do i look for this issue? Would it be the lead, phone, mdi kit or wiring, or something mentioned.

Any ideas?

Cheers

If you have a USB cable, try updating the MDI firmware

Are you using a case on your iphone? I found my green collared cable could be a bit hit and miss too, got a better connection with an older iphone cable and genuine Lightning adapter that has about 4" of cable. Actually have this setup again on my S4 rather than the MDI lightning cable.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

I had to update it soon after fitting so will check if its the latest firmware I have...

No case on the iphone5 but i do have an ipod cable as well so will give the lightning adaptor a try.

Properly annoying!!

Got a lightning adaptor and haven't looked back! Perfect!
