Passenger door won't open
« on: August 29, 2016, 03:31:11 pm »
As title, it won't open! All others (5 door) OK. When I press the remote to unlock it sounds like it is unlocking and immediately relocking, but I can't catch it in the mili-second after it seems to unlock (if that is even possible).

Internet solutions seem to be to give it a good whack, but I am a little loathe to randomly hit my car in the hope that it unlocks and then will probably happen again.

Any ideas? (or cost to sort??!!). 9 years old now, so I am guessing no goodwill from VW (even if 1 owner, VW SH). Thanks.

It's gone I'm afraid, that double lock noise I think is the solenoid attempting to open and then subsequently failing.

I replaced my rear passenger one in an hour.

Remove the handle and door skin and then change out the module.

You can get reconditioned ones on eBay for about €40

There's a how to guide on the forum

As others have said. A new door locking module is what you need. Such a common problem with these cars

It's an easy enough job IF you can get the poxy door to open!!

I just couldn't get mine to open, no mater what I did!! Tried all the tricks.

Even tried removing the door skin without opening the door!! Needless to say that was a total waste of time  :ashamed: Supposedly it can be done (on a 5 door car) but I couldn't manage it :ashamed:

I was getting ready to cut the door skin with my angle grinder and looking at replacing the door skin, door lock, then body shop for paint (most likely in a slightly different shade of red :P) etc etc...

To say I was miffed would be an understatement....

But before I got the angle grinder out I popped down to my local Auto electricians (who have a seriously good reputation!!) to ask their advice.

The senior technician there was able to pop my passenger door grab handle off and access the door lock wiring loom. He put 24 volts across the lock and blew it to smithereens!

I was delighted as the door could now be opened and the module swapped out!!

No great drama, no angle grinder and no poxy trip to the paint shop  :happy2:

Anyways just thought I would share that story :rolleye:

Hopefully yours will be much much more straightforward :happy2: :happy2:
