Cost of fitting RNS510
« on: July 08, 2015, 12:08:30 pm »
Hi there,

First post here, so thank you in advance to anyone who can help me out here.

I'm currently in the market for my first mk5 GTI, and have been working out exactly what spec I want.

I've decided on a Black 5dr DSG with leather interior. In terms of higher spec I want highline, MFSW and an up to date satnav/bluetooth/ipod system. From what I have read, It would appear that the RNS510 is what I should be looking at. I haven't seen many cars for sale with these installed, so I am assuming I will have to have this installed once I find my car.

I see a number of people have done this, and I was hoping someone might be able to give me a rough breakdown of what is needed and the cost? I would be comfortable fitting it myself, but I cannot code, so would need help there.

I gather Eddie NL is the man when it comes to this sort of stuff, but I cant seem to message him. Does anyone have contact details?

Thank you.

You need more than 10 posts to PM people on here  :signLOL:

I'm sure @Eddie-NL would be able to sort you out with what you need and require.. I hope you don't mind the tag Eddie!!  :happy2:

There are loads of good, knowledgeable people on here who can help.

I have a Black 5dr DSG with MFSW, highline but with the cloth interior, I had a red 3 door prior to this with leather and to be honest - I find the cloth loads better! - but that's my personal preference.

In regards as to what you need for the RNS510, there are loads of factors in this, what year the Golf is, what version of RNS510 etc, as it may need a CAN gateway if before 2007/08 (i think), it may not... Defo Eddie the man to speak to  :drinking:

Thanks for the response guys, much appreciated. I'll have to get my post count up! Bit tricky when starting out as dont have much advice to give, mainly questions to ask!

Interesting what yo say about the leather/cloth - how come you prefer the cloth? Is it looks or comfort?

Sadly I havent found the right car yet, so I guess I will have to wait and see what year it is before figuring out exact bits and pieces I may need.

I'm based in London.

Thanks

In regards to the cloth, I think it holds you better, wears better with age and looks better.  It was actually one of the requirements I looked for when finding this one, cloth interior.

I am in the same boat as you now, I have just picked up a new 5 door white gti and looking to upgrade the radio to RNS510 from my research. Still trying to come to terms with all the VW terminology.

How did you get on with this?

I just got my first gti and I had the RNS 510 fitted by Eddie@NL from here. He is in Great Yarmouth and did a fantastic job, he was really quick, tidy and helpful.
The same problem as you guys, I couldn't contact him by PM due to lack of posts but I managed to find him via eBay.
Bear in mind you will need to can bus which Eddie can supply and fit at the same time.
Hope this is useful to you.

Cost for a RNS510 is anything between £350-450 range if your buying used, I picked mine up for £360 with a GPS antenna and radio code  from eBay, there is a lot being sold on there from eastern europe (mine was from Hounslow) - however there is cheaper units out there and my friend has one he got ordered from Lithuania and its identical to mine and genuine so don't fear that!

So I had to fork out;
£360 For the unit
£20 delivery
£5 Antenna adapter
I also needed to purchase a RNS510 MFD3 Radio antenna adapter (as the antenna is on a different plug/socket for the RNS510 in comparison to the RCD300)

In terms of fitting, providing your just doing a straight swap it can be easily done by yourself, and I'd be happy to help - I'm in Kent, Maidstone. Only thing I can't do right now is Vagcom stuff!
