Mini cooper d engine part --- What is it - Yeah i know its a vw forum !

In the above photo i am after the name of the 3" pipe that comes down towards the front and then turns left . I need a small part from inside the end of it , you can just see it in the photo , it is orange (it is on all the cooper d engines of this era and reduces the size of the pipe slightly , mine has split ) . Apparently it only comes with the pipe which has been referred as a boost pipe ... What is its actual name ... Its £150 for the pipe ... I wan to search ebay for it

The orange seal is a turbo air pipe sleeve.

Looks like that engine is the 1.4 or 1.6 hdi engine from peugeot that's in loads of motors like fiestas, focus etc. notorious for clogging the oil pick up pipe in the sump. Not sure on the age of your car or the history but I'd advise atleast looking at it  just a heads up

Found one on ebay ... £9.30 free postage . Thanks for the heads up ... Car was serviced today , found the sleeve split but couldn't just find the sleeve at Peugeot or BMW main dealers and were told only available with the pipe .... So rather than order the £150 ish part my indy pointed it out and i shall sort it myself

Should there be oil in the pipe ? It is the 1.6hdi engine  (car is Nov 2008 57k).... We are getting rid of the car to get a 5 door Mini , don't want anyone moaning about the car if we sell it so how do we check regarding your above comments ?

Depends how much oil was in the pipe? If it's just a tiny bit don't worry.

You'd have to remove the sump and I think the exhaust to check the oil strainer. Did you feel for any play on the turbo shaft when you had the pipe off? If there was no play the oil strainer will be ok, if it was clogged up bad it'd of killed the turbo by now.

Car has been running great ever since we've had it , don't do that many miles tbh in it and had no issues . The Stop start sometimes doesn't work but its such a temperamental thing and of no benefit in real world driving ...There was a little oil in the pipe .... shan't be taking the sump off ! Thanks
