Well had both bearings done today and I pleased to say that that horrendous noise has now finally gone!! So in the end it wasn't the tyres afterall!#

The only thing I noticed though when driving it home from the garage is there seems to be a slight bit of grinding noise coming from the brake area? As if the brake pads are catching the disc with each rotation. Is this normal after having bearings changed? I wondered if after the brakes have been messed with they might need bedding in again over time?

I'd probably guess they have caught the backing plate and it's catching on the disc.

You just pull the dust shields away from the brake discs.

Ah how do I sort that out? Is it easy?

Couldn't get anymore simple, take wheel off and look around back of disc to see if the backing plate is catching and if it is just use a screw driver or something to bend it back.

More fool you  :laugh:
Vw don't make there own bearings so therefore can gaurantee if you look carefully on the actual bearing it will have manufacturers marking on it, most likely Skf!

Same with likes of Brembo brakes etc buy pads etc direct from brembo or from ebay as dealers just charging a premium for same part they have boxed up and given there own part number  :sick:

ALL DONE! :happy2: pushed the flimsey backing plate back a bit and now there is silence  :smiley:

To think I have been driving for months with that noise thinking it was a misshapen tyre! Surprised my wheels didn't drop off! Thanks for all the help again guys  :drinking:
