Intermittent rear wiper fault
« on: August 25, 2015, 12:59:15 pm »
My car had it's MOT last Friday and passed with no advisorys  :happy2: but over the last couple of days the rear wiper has refused to work. I can hear the relay click when activated but no movement. Although it worked again briefly yesterday but stopped working when I used the car later that day...

Any ideas?

I've got the same problem in reverse.

Sometimes when I start the car the rear wiper starts and won't stop until I start the car and restart again.

Any ideas?

Thanks
James

My edition 30 had the rear wiper removed when purchased.
I cannot get the rear wiper to work on its own.
The only way it will work is if I spray the front screen with washer fluid, then it wipes the rear screen 4 or 5 times.
Very strange.

Well since the weekend, mine seems to be working again, very strange I guess it's probably a loose connection somewhere?

Audi a3's of similar year to mk5's suffer from water off the rear washer leaking into motor and cause them to act like there possessed lol

Could be that?

I had a similar issue with mine. It turned out to be issues with the wiring loom in the bit that goes from the car to the tailgate. I had to have the wires put back together as they were falling apart. Since the repair, it works fine :)

Thanks I will check it out, I will also put it on VCDS and see if any errors come up.

Replacing the wiper motor was the cure when I had mine as the motor and washer pump are a combined unit

Update to this post:

I have found that by squeezing the wiring that goes from the roof of the car to the boot, I can get the wiper working again. So I guess that means there must be a fault with the wiring somewhere? Is there any easy way to check?

Done some digging around and found this very helpful guide: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=86689.0

I'm hoping mine is not as serious but at least I know there is a solution!

It definately is the loom, I checked it last night and found this:

It's probably the reason why the high level brake light is dead too!
