Nonsense, you clearly don't know the power of the PD170. The mk5 has a much better chassis and cabin, especially the later versions.

Yes, the PD130 ASZ was really good after being tuned and the PD150 ARL had great innovations, but the chassis wasn't as good accordingly.

I wasn't talking about the chassis, but purely the engines merits. No DPF woes either.

PD170 was again a good engine but suffered DPF problems but this wasn't really VW's fault, was forced upon them.
Common rail engines are MUCH better than the PD engines.. I had a pd for nearly 3 years and tuned it and now also have a CR170 and have tuned that.. CR smoother, quieter, more refined, better response, only "downside" is harder to tune (much more complex to map) and more expensive because they're new.

It gets worse.. It appears that the latest Euro6 VW diesel unit has a problem as well... Looks like BMW will be getting my money next, Unless they are found to be cheating too  ;-)

You would be surprised at how many people will avoid the whole VW group now. Especially the older middle class. My father in law who changes his car yearly has just wiped all VW groups cars off his list as he his disgusted by the whole affair.

To be honest, so am I. I have a brand new A6, my previous car was an A7, previous to that I had a mk6 golf, mk5 golf all bought brand new. I have spent a lot of money with a company who have lied to me. Oddly enough, when I got the A6, I knew something was up. They touted it to be mega efficient and to reach crazy MPG. Its no better than any car I have had previously.

The "defeat device"/cheating is only to do with NOx output as opposed to power or fuel consumption claims.

PSA is only Peugeot and Citroen :) Nissan is part of a seperate alliance with Renault (which incorporates Dacia and now Datsun).
