Head gasket leaking!!!
« on: August 26, 2015, 10:49:41 am »
So in the past 2 or so months I've had to top the coolant up 3 times, so I took it to my local garage and got them to pressure test it, turns out my head gasket is leaking, so long story short they've told me when doing this it's best to change the water pump, timing belt and other miscellaneous gaskets. They then quoted me £1300.00 to do all this, so what I'd like to know is 1) is this price a fair price and 2) is all the other work necessary?

Thanks Niall

Not sure on the price but it makes sense to change the belt as it has to be removed when taking the head of

with any questions like these, first thing to do is price up parts be it oem or from euros (whichever said quote intends to use) and see what that leaves for labour.

seems like a lot to me - any mention of head skimming?

Thanks for the replies, no the bloke didn't mention any head skimming, but I will do as you have said and price up the parts myself and see how close it is.

Work on the basis that cambelt would be £350 inc parts and labour.
Id say around £600-£700 for a headgasket replacement .

If head is being skimmed with all genuine bits.
Haven't heard of a TFSI doing a headgasket.

I also thought it was strange it being my head gasket seeing as though it's only done 59000 miles

Hopefully your not mistaking the yellow stuff under the filler cap which is common, called Moisture and needs a good hard run down the motorway.....

Or this could be a very expensive error and someone's taking you for a ride.

Head gaskets don't normally go on the 2.0tfsi..
Heating matrix leaking in the foot wells? That's a possibility ?
They normally go wrong with the Fuel pump internals modification and 2+ tuning only...pretty bomb proof otherwise.

To be honest I haven't looked myself i took it into the garage because of having to fill the coolant up 3 times in a couple of month, the garage then done the pressure test and told me it was the head gasket leaking. However now it sounds like I should be getting a second opinion

Thanks for your help lads. Hopefully it is something less expensive
