Using your GTI for work use?
« on: August 23, 2015, 09:14:53 pm »
Any one use there GTI for work purposes. I have just accepted a job where they are going to pay me a car allowance each month and pay me 45p per mile for using a car.

Thing is a have finance to pay on my own Pirelli so may have to use it, its got 50k on the clock and the thought of putting too many miles and excessivd wear and tear on her is horrible. I could just sell it to clear the finance and lease a new golf but I wonder if I should just keep my car and enjoy it and put miles on it.

Any one else experienced this and uses there gti for work?

Buy a small diesel heap for £500 and a years ticket and use that for the work slog.

I use mine for work and love it. Yeah, the mileage will rack up, but cars are made to be driven (especially the GTi).

Not putting miles on your car is like not shagging your Mrs to save her for the next man.
Special editions aside it's just a golf.

drive it and enjoy it
I do around 40k a year and did that in my GTI with no issues.

I get paid per mile on mine for work too and I was reluctant to put the miles on at first and as @PT82 said, I had considered buying a cheap run around.

After consideration I got more money per mile for the 2L engine and I'd enjoy it every single day so I stuck it out in the GTI.

I've put nearly 20,000 miles on it since but I enjoy every minute of it and net about €6k per year in mileage to counteract the devaluation of the car.

Now that €6K excludes the additional cost of petrol, tyres and more frequent servicing but I'd say I'm clearing around €2.5k profit maybe....

I use mine for work as well as it being the family car at the weekends. I do about 12k miles per year in it in total as my wife has a run around for the local stuff

I also get a car allowance and a mileage rate and given I own the car outright and it is not a high value car anymore, makes sense to just put miles on a 7 year old car than a new shiny one. I enjoy driving it as it gives nice economy when I need a good performance also. It still turns heads when washed and polished

I would love a Cayman or something and can afford one but just could not live with the depreciation or running costs given you never know where the job is going to go to
