You could first try a basic setting for the intake manifold motor in vcds but in all honesty I think you'll be needing to renew the motor.

Prerequisites:
 Ignition ON
 Engine OFF
System voltage at least 11.0 V.

[Select]
[01 - Engine]
[Basic Settings - 04]
 Group 142
[Go!]
 Activate the Basic Setting.
[ON/OFF/Next]
Wait until Field 4 shows "ADP. O.K.".
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]

Switch Ignition OFF for at least 60 seconds.

Without traction power is nothing!

iirc a new motor costs around £180 from VW.
The car should be ok without it functioning as it's needed for cold start running. Indeed in some highly modified cars the intake flaps are sometimes replaced altogether to attain more hp...

Thanks for this matey apreciate your help. It has been a bit poor starting recently a bit spluttery. When I was driving it had a loss of power which was almost instantly gone, parked up and light came on. I'll run it in to vw tomorrow.

Just been having a look and from what I can tell replacing the motor is a fairly straight forward job, I have found a couple of diy s but these are outdated so no pics, could anyone point me in the direction of a decent one. Cheers

This diy is not for a golf but the install is the same i.e. a 2.0l tfsi engine.
