looking good mate.

with the above bulbs, i had to send mine back as they're too thick.

some say they fit, some dont. in my experience they will distort the 501 holder as they are too thick

^^^ I think he was talking about it!
The difference with the xenons on full beam is unbelievable! Like your own sun! :happy2:

I didn't know they functioned as Bi-Xenons? I though they had halogen main beams? Or are there two types of Golf Xenon head lamps?

Also, are Golf Xenons generic for RHD and LHD or do you have to purchase UK spec RHD units?
Only 250.1bhp - but with that noise, who cares?

Mile-muncher ordered: MkVI 1.6 TDi BlueMotion Match DSG with leather, winter pack, luxury pack, fogs, climate control, Dynaudio pack, RCD510 with DAB & MDI, flat tyre indicator

Yep they are all bi-xenons. You have the halogen and xenons for full beam. There is a switch on them to cuts the beam to the other for driving abroad. I am not sure it it makes a proper beam or if it just cuts it off to stop blinding people

I've a feeling that it is the latter as I'm sure I've read before (ages ago) that the switch does not convert LHD lights (i.e. German eBay purchases) to the full UK RHD beam pattern. I'm just looking for 100% confirmation on this. If it is the case, I shall just bite the bullet and buy the units from VW. Assuming of course I cant find a car with Xenons fitted, retro fitting properly is bloomin' expensive job I'd rather avoid!

I want to be sure they are RHD UK spec (which you can't always be assured of when buying second hand) especially if there is any doubt what-so-ever as to whether the adjusted LHD version create the correct beam pattern. I'm not one for cutting corners or bodging something and 'making do'. I'm more than happy to pay what ever it takes to have a proper, legal UK spec set-up and that'll include washers and levellers. That's not to say I will be paying full price for the parts or to have VW carry out the installation though!

My search for a GTI will resume in ernest in the new year now my Fiancee is fully on board with the idea (she actually brings the insurance down!). I think I might just have to wait for the right car with Xenons to come along... Unless a good deal comes my way. My perfect car is currently sat on Windrush's forcourt in Reading - typically, before Xmas!

yes mate, for my xenons. They just didnt wanna play ball. With the width of them, they also pushed the contact metal away meaning they werent getting power. Autobulbs were good in refunding though! ;)

Look good, shame they are technically illegal and therefore insurance void. Hope no one goes into you and blames your lights mate as your up poo creek.

They need to have washers and auto levelers to be legal (an MOT is not a test of whether you car is legal, it merely tests within set parameters and guidelines to show its road worthy)

I agree to some extent but surely the washers don't actually do much
the auto levellers will stop blinding people but what exactly will a spray of water on the headlights do

cheers

It is due to the fact that the light beam output becomes funny (cant think of technical word) when the headlights are dirty. This is why they have them fitted to keep they clean! I think alot of people find them annoying as they squirt all over the car! I dont think I will be fitting the washers just the levelers! I will use my mitt as the washers!  :signLOL:  :happy2:
