Rear caliper sticking.

So I was told today after my mot that my rear passenger caliper is sticking. This would probably explain the annoying squeaking I have been getting when lightly braking. Is a new caliper required or can a service kit be bought?

I found a rebuild kit online for £25 which has all new seals and so on. Did the new caliper fix the problem?

Recently replaced oneof my rear calipers due to sticking etc
Genuine painted red caliper on ebay around £80
Not worth messing about with old one to be honest plus my mpg increased by quite alot once replaced due to the drag from that wheel

Just buy a used or new caliper on Ebay.
Pretty common. Not worth repairing it, usually the slider pins get completely buggered.

Got the same issue with mine at the moment and I've been searching all morning for a reasonable replacement. Any links to EBay calipers etc? Or genuine ones at £80 on eBay?

Called my local TPS this morning and was quoted £190.54 for a new genuine rear caliper. I very nearly burst out laughing

Euro car parts do 2 types of non genuine calipers. "Pagid" rear caliper (would need powdercoated) at £94.80 and "TRW" (red powdercoated) at £110.40.

Am I best buying genuine or settling for non oem? Also, is it best to replace both rears at the same time to save another headache?

Hi, oem calipers were originally made by TRW so that's a good choice especially in red.

If your competent to rebuild your own calipers buy a seal kit from Brake International as a secondhand one could easily seize again in a few years. (Rears are easy to rebuild as you can wind the piston out)

Don't forget Touran calipers are the same and cost £20 second hand worth a thought.

Also 2k caddy calipers are also a direct replacement on 286 / 282mm carriers. This would be an upgrade as they have larger Pistons (search rear NQSBBK)

I mentioned about sticking slider pins as a friend had this problem on a VRS for the MOT, he ended up buying a new caliper and painted it green only to find out the pin was bent causing the rear to bind.

That's great Mike, thanks a lot for that. I've had the wheel off and had a good look round about and it doesn't look like any pins or metal is bent in there but I did notice it's starting to grind away the pad a bit now. The calipers are also stamped TRW as you say.

I've been quoted £244+vat for 2 rears supplied and fitted. That's a vw specialist. Fair deal?

Seems like a fair price considering you found them for £110 each and you won't have to get your hands dirty!

I got a new TWR branded r32 rear caliper from www.brakeparts.co.uk for around £80 so worth a look on there
