Right, I know there is a wealth of information on turbo problems here and elsewhere, but for my own sanity I'm needing to just vent my chain of events in the hope that I can get some good advice. Got a TDI, but problems seem common for the age range.
MKv 2006 2.0 TDI sport - Issue is - Whining turbo, engine light & code P0234 (which went off the other day btw...), occasional limp mode, lagging power.
when I say lagging power, I mean at lower gears there is like a delay after pressing the accelerator until the 'power' kicks in.
Had it a year, bought it with a whining turbo (I was clueless..), had limp mode within the first week. The place I got it somehow fixed the limp mode but the whine persisted, they said nothing we can do for that. I enjoyed several months of fine but whiny driving.
Around February this year, the intercooler pipe blew off. Got that fixed by a garage, had amazing power for about a week then back to limp mode when I went on the motorway. Lagging power and still whining, but drivable.
Went on a weekend trip last month and then the limp mode was back with a vengeance this time with an engine light and code p0234 turbo/super charger overboost condition.
Went to a german car specialist garage in town, the owner said I have a sticking wastegate and suggested a full turbo replacement. My customer experience with this guy was soured with his unprofessional attitude and they scraped my rims which they half fixed badly for free. Not sure this garage is reliable.
In december it was at VW for a callback steering sensor replacement and they noted the whining and mentioned a faulty oil feed pipe.
At the weekend my Uncle and I got the car on axle stands to have a look for and start assessing it ourselves via guides on the internet but he thought it would be a can of worms once we got under the car and started pulling sh*t apart, plus we live in different towns. He has a garage and tools, I dont..
Anyone had a similar experience and know what this most likely is, a new turbo/new wastegate needed or just turbo internals cleaned/repaired?
Thanks for reading golf fans.
