RCD300 -> RCD510 DIY
« on: December 29, 2014, 07:15:26 pm »
After following a few guides posted on here I managed to install a DAB RCD510 radio to my 07 GTi. I have came across a few issuses though:

Two arial leads from RCD300 (one white, one yellow) and the 510 unit has two-in-one sock (both white).

Radio also came without a code :fighting2: I have took pictures of serial number etc on the radio, is there anyway I can obtain a code online?

Thanks.

After digging a little deeper I found this adapter available from VW (£22ish) Part Number 7L6051551

Is this the adapter I need?

So just this radio code now

Did you change you can gateway?

Decided to see if I'd get away without updating it. Guess I'll find out if I'm lucky in the morning.

Build date is March 2007? Have budgeted for a canbus update but testing to see if I'll get away without updating.

Have seen many ebay ads offering radio codes, are they genuine?

Car started fine this morning even in the cold weather.

Part also ordered from VW (£25). Radio code I bought from ebay was also correct. Happy days!

One last thing, I bought the car with MDI installed (I believe) as it had an iPod 30pin cable and no AUX input.

Now that I have upgraded the HU, will the MDI still work?

You should have an Ipod dock, which is the previous version of the MDI with Ipod connector.

A picture should clarify it.

This is a topic about an Ipod dock: http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80702

Hmm this has me a little confused. I have a cable in the driver glove box which fits into the old iPhone (3&4). Pretty sure no AUX input.

Was able to access first 5 playlist on my iPod, with the rcd300 by selecting "cd" twice.

How easy is it to remove the ipod connection and just have an aux input into my rcd510? Called vw and they quoted me £250.

For that price you can get 2 MDI...

The parts should are cheap but you need to know how to fit them.

I have also changed the rcd300 to the 510 and it all works fine, except for the iPod dock. Static noise coming through the speakers and very low sound from the iPod. Any help on how I could get it to work again with the 510 would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
