Oil change
« on: September 07, 2015, 02:41:21 pm »
I know this is irrelevant to VDubs but need some info,

My 2012 C63 AMG went into mercedes this weekend (Saturday) for an oil and filter changed + spark plugs. All for the bargain price of £485 :sad1:

Anyways, Checked the engine oil on Sunday and it's still very dark brown in colour (almost black)..

Called MB and told them this and according to the Service manager this is "normal"... If the oil has been changed correctly ie drained completely surely it's should be golden brown after the service?

It's a petrol engine, 6.2 V8. 42000 miles with all services carried out according to the schedule...

It will be brown... until you run the car. It will turn black again very soon.

Weird thing is my mums toyota Aygo engine which uses oil like it does fuel, has over 100K and does over 100 miles a day still has golden brown oil even tbough it was serviced over 1000 miles ago.

I think this is quite common with direct injection engines.

Am I overreacting maybe? I've considered having the oil tested for £50 to have the TBN checked

Our Little UP! has the cleanest oil I've seen; after thousands of miles it still looks like it does when you pour it in, the GTI is always dark brown/black in comparison after just a few hundred miles... doesn't worry me tbh --- the GTI has done 150k now too if that means anything :)

Hopefully they drained the oil and did not use an extractor.

Why waste money getting it tested? If you're worried buy some decant oil & change it yourself. Get some very decent oil for £50 :-)
