Radiator fans help please!!! bump with video
« on: September 03, 2015, 06:41:46 pm »
Help please
Has anyone got any  ideas, both of my fans turn on full pelt some times when I start the car when I turn it off they stay on and can't get them to go off but the only way to turn them off is remove fuse and refit fuse then they stay off,
I have spent loads on parts but luckily I am a mechanic so fit everything at work.
I HAVE changed- both relays, both coolant temp sensors, battery, both fans but problem still there any idears

Really need to get it sorted been doing it for couple of months now and has cost me 250+ on parts already

Im not a fan of radiators, but I can say that my old golf MK5 GTTDI used to do this. I took it into VW and they did something with the ECU.

It was done under warrantee but they appeared to know what the problem was even though I was one of the first in the country to have one with the miles I had done. Might be work calling them and asking if they know a common fault.

I had the exact same problem with my fans but fortunately replacing the fans fixed it. So know how frustrating it is. I had a bit of plastic from my main fan missing so when mine used to go full pelt the vibrating sound was extremely loud and I could see everyone looking! I had to keep turning the engine off and taking the key out for mine to stop and then restart the car. Used to be a right pain when stuck in rush hour traffic!

Hope you get it sorted!

Wish I could help mate. Had the same problem recently. Fans came on two hours after car was driven. Ended up being faulty coolant sensors. Never heard a noise like it, with both of them going full chat.

If you disconnect both fans with the connector on the left lower side of the radiator and clean it,did it for me! Else you need to change the big fan...

i have changed
-big fan
-small fan
-both coolant temp sensors
-battery
-coolant fan relay

and when i scan the car with my vagcom it does not come up with any faults
