R8's NGK red coils for GTI?
« on: September 06, 2015, 11:45:45 pm »
Hi all:
Firstly sorry for my English. I'm from Spain and my English isn't good.

I think that I have a problem with my ignition coils. One of them could be failing and making a misfire. So I want to change my 4 coils. I heard that the coils for the Audi R8 runs very good in GTI V. My car is stock but in future I would like to reprogram it to stage I.

What do you recommend me? How do they work? Can I put these ignition coils without problems? I have NGK sparks too.

Thank you so much!

Hi. Yes the R8 coilpacks will work fine. Spark plug NGK BKR7EIX are the ones to go for.

Thank you, @rich83. Now I have in my car these spark plugs (New. Replaced 3 weeks ago):

Is it absolutely necessary that the plugs are iridium?

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have noticed that when I accelerate hard it feels like I am getting a flat spot in 3rd gear. Its hard to describe.  Its like I am hitting a rev limiter.

Does it sound like I need to swap mine out to solve it?

Is it misfiring?

Best to log with vcds to identify which cylinder is causing your problems  :happy2:

Yeah I need to find someone who can help me get an error code up.  I can't tell if it's misfiring as not 100% sure what that feels like.  Its done it since I got the car 15k miles ago.
Have ordered the coil packs and plugs today

Whereabouts are you based?

Data logging the car will identify any misfires or errors. You may be getting misfires that aren't enough to trigger a light on dash / fault code.

That seems to be my problem at present - which has now been identified as misfires on cylinder 3. Hopefully I can swap the coilpack and that'll sort it - only had the injectors changed 5 months ago.

I am in Liverpool mate.
Yeah it's bothering me and always has that there is an issue there. Finally had other things sorted and decide I need to tackle this.  Saw the packs and plugs were relatively cheap so might be worth doing anyway as neither have been changed whilst under my ownership

Cheers mate...  Its a hard sensation to explain but it just kinda lulls....  I guess if you visualised the torque curve it would climb and then level off completely and then climb again. Just hope it's nothing more expensive and involved

Me neither have done a logging. The problem is when the car is in idle. I feel soft moves, like little vibrations... When driving the car is perfect and I don't detect any anomaly. Surely the problem is in the coils or in some injector. What do you think about?

At idle mine sounds fine..  DV and PCV recently changed...  All sounds fine and feels fine until I accelerate hard and every time I do I get the flat spot. Usually when heading up a slip road onto a motorway so it kinda has to be taken into account when planning on accelerating hard

Your problem could be in the fuel pump or in the N75 valve (I think). You should do a data logging with vag com.

Finally I did a log with Vag-Com and found this error:

Knock Sensor (G66)

Is it a big problem? could this be causing the vibration at idle? Should I fix it immediately to avoid a bigger problem?

I thought it was because the ignition coils
