55 Gti Bubbling wing and Rear Badge handle
« on: September 07, 2015, 01:27:35 pm »
Hi Guys,

I'm going to speak to my local VW dealer (Yeovil) about some bubbling on my left arch and see what they say about it coming under warranty... Ive got a 55 plate Gti so it needs to be done soon.

Anyway, I've also got some bubbling under my boot badge and at the bottom of the boot itself... does anyone know if that will come under it too? or is it just a wing thing?

Cheers

It's actually a 12 year warranty on bodywork. You should be fine.

they will no doubt offer a contribution towards the boot. get your sills done as well whilst the wings are off

to be honest the wing isnt bad, just slight bubbling that willl obviously get worse and i don't think there's any on the sill, i just got it booked in thinking its a ten year warranty and that's about to run out if so. hopefully mentioning small claims will buck them up like some of the lads on here have used!  :P

Make sure you have a good look with the sills. Often the rust is hidden well behind the front of the sill under where the panel meets.  :surprised:

They covered my cars wings free of charge, the boot they did as a gesture of good will as my cars always been serviced by them. Had it not been, I would have been looking at 50% contribution which would have been about £300

Hi guys. Didn't want to start a thread for a small question, but when going for repair did anyone manage to get VW to blend the wings into the doors? It seems they'll happily replace the wings but refuse to blend (circa £160 per wing)? Is this the same experience others have found too?

There's also a new bulletin from this year, which updates the known affected areas.

My wings matched when VW replaced them so not sure if they blended or I was just lucky.

Please tell more about the bulletin?!

So...Quick update.

I had a call yesterday while the car was in Heritage VW (Yeovil) and they told me that the wing and boot lid had been previously repaired due to the paint thickness being uneven and thinner where the bubbling has appeared. i fully understand that they cant repair it under warranty because of this, but how do i know that a previous owner hasn't had VW do it under warranty before? and the rust is coming back due to a bad job done by them...?

Anyway, so i got to the garage and when i got there i asked to speak to the technician that carried out the work and he explained all of the above in 'slightly' more detail. when we walked around the car i noticed a hideous scratch on the left front wing and asked the chap if he noticed that before he started and he agreed that no, it wasn't there before.

I'm now waiting for a call from them to let me know how this will be resolved. so i might have a saving grace in that i can offer them to knock off the expense that it would cost to repair the scratch against the cost of a new wing to be sprayed and fitted.

who else has had this? because i seem to remember that pretty much everyone waits a few weeks for 'results' to come back as to whether its going to be under warranty or not.

From my experience the paint depth was checked as well as photos being taken at the dealer prior to agreeing to do the work (they had the car for a half day). The photos were then sent by them onto VW to approve the warranty claim to the dealer.

If it was done previously by VW they should be able to check? Unless it's another dealer where it might be worth looking through your service history to contact them. Also if it was a previous warranty claim, VW head office would probably have records against the registration?
