Window detail questions
« on: September 12, 2015, 01:30:32 pm »
Hi all. Window cleaning questions...

1) How can I remove the streak which the wipers leave behind?

2) Any ideas for getting rid of the white-ish outline around my rear windows?? See pics.

Cheers!

Hi,

I'm not sure what your mean by streak from the wipers - if the glass is really etched from fine grit, then the only way would be to replace the glass, or polish it mechanically.
One thing I always do with wiper blades is to clean then very thoroughly with a rag dipped in washer fluid. Cleans no end of muck out and gets them working well. Stops smearing and streaking!

Regards your second question - I have similar lines emerging around my rear side windows (3-dr), but no-where near as bad as on your hatch. On mine, I have suspected it is some sort of missing sealant issue as they seem to appear in the glass well within any edges.
I've seem delamination pictures of front screens where they go milky on the edges inwards, but these look different to yours as your marks looks below the glass, whereas delamination is in the glass. Maybe removing the screen and fresh bonding agent to the edge would sort it.

Personally, I'd ask the option of a screen fitter or such like...

Cheers for the reply.

Yeah, I suspect the only fix would be to take the window out and redo the seal. Then it comes down to how much I'm willing to spend to sort it.

Any ideas how much that would cost?
