HELP! Laptop experts...
« on: September 15, 2015, 06:10:37 pm »
Any computer or laptop gurus in?
I've had a problem with my screen flashing, blanking and going black.I traced it to the display cable and sent for a replacement.
Installed the new cable today and....nuthin.
I re-installed the original cable, thinking that a flashing screen and possible epilepsy was better than nothing but again the laptop powered up but the screen refused to show life.
I'm now confused and a little bit miffed about thinking I may have to join the 21st century and buy a tablet thing.....
So, short of replacing the graphics card (which I don't believe is broken) any hints, tips or ideas?

If you have access to an external monitor then allow the laptop to boot into the desktop even though the screen is black, connect the external monitor (via vga or hdmi cable) and switch the display output to the external monitor. It's usually something like Fn+F8 to do so.

If the monitor shows your desktop then I then suspect the backlight for your screen has failed seeing you've already changed the display cable. You can get the backlight replaced but it's a specialist job so cheaper to just buy a used screen.
Without traction power is nothing!

Thanks fot the reply....but it now turns out that the tiny clip that holds the end of the band cable that runs from the power switch to the motherboard has been broken off and the band has been staying put by sheer willpower I think.
But now that its been disturbed, it means that a new connector on the mb is required. Dunno now if its worth all that trouble. :(
